Sea Cave Find Has Archeologists Excited

Author: Randy Boswell Source: CanWest News Service

Title: SEA CAVE FIND HAS ARCHEOLOGISTS EXCITED
The discovery of an ancient mountain goat's bone in a Vancouver Island cave has added weight to a compelling new theory that the first human migration to the Americas happened more than 16,000 years ago, at least 40 centuries earlier than most textbooks teach.
The evidence also supports the idea that the original native occupants of Canada arrived by boat rather than on foot.
Led by Simon Fraser University geologist Brent Ward, a team of researchers has been digging into mucky sediments on the floor of a cave near Port Eliza on the Island's rugged western shore. The cave, cut from the coastline eons ago by pounding Pacific waves, was later lifted above the water line so that its contents -- a scientific treasure of glacial deposits, plant remains and animal bones -- were protected from the flushing action of the sea.

fascinating. I've always found the tradtitional conclusions about human migration a little... if-y. When you think about it - our genome hasn't changed much in the last few thousand years. And what has changed has been primarily physical. There CAN'T have been that much change intellectually. I mean, if we can build craft that will launch us into space NOW, why couldn't we have made AT LEAST rudimentary boats that long ago?
