Police Accused Of Using Provocateurs At Summit

Author: Canadian Press   Source: The star.com (Canada)

Title: POLICE ACCUSED OF USING PROVOCATEURS AT SUMMIT

Protesters are accusing police of using undercover agents to provoke violent confrontations at the North American leaders' summit in Montebello, Que.

Such accusations have been made before after similar demonstrations but this time the alleged "agents provocateurs" have been caught on camera.

A video, posted on YouTube, shows three young men, their faces masked by bandannas, mingling Monday with protesters in front of a line of police in riot gear. At least one of the masked men is holding a rock in his hand.

Wow??? Aug 23rd. at 5:00:21 pm EDT

I'm really shocked this kind of thing happens. Okay, that's sarcasm since the FBI in the U.S. has been doing that since Viet Nam.

Fight with knowledge, not in ignorance.

Happened In The U.S. Too Aug 23rd. at 4:34:29 pm EDT

Badger Breaking Ground (Denton, Texas) - Email Me

Channel 9415 on Dish Network (Free Speech TV) had a Doc about the G8 summit that happened in Seattle a few years ago. There was video of "protesters" wearing tie-dyed head wraps that JUST failed to cover up ear pieces like the type law enforcement use. Then they chunk rocks into store windows, start the riot and get calmly led away by police while those around them get beat down.

The Doc also had witnesses telling of the police going to the bad areas around the city. Telling locals that if they see people with cameras but not wearing the large badges that designated imbedded reporters, that were those persons to have their equipment stolen there would be no invesigation by the police.

This kind of stuff really hacks me off.

This Happened In Canada Aug 23rd. at 2:59:19 pm EDT

Keep in mind that this event happened in Canada, so Canadian laws and not US ones apply.

It makes me ashamed to be Canadian that our own police would engage in something so underhanded as to plant provocateurs like that to try and start a riot which they planned to blame on the protesters.

Holding A Rock Aug 23rd. at 10:57:05 am EDT

The way that one protestor was holding a rock, constitutes Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and a complaint should be filed, involving any police who assisted these felon's flight.

Agents of Provocation, I think it's a Napoleonic Term, a maneuver for the Moral High Ground.

Saw It At Kent State Aug 23rd. at 10:27:56 am EDT

Sphinxring (Olympia, Washington) - Email Me

Back in 1970, the agent provacateurs were out in force at Kent State before the shooting. They inserted themselves in calm political assemblies shouting Kill the Pigs! etc. Others say they were behind the smashing a shop windows and fires that were the justification for sending in the National Guard who ended up shooting students.

Not Really Surprised Aug 23rd. at 10:20:08 am EDT

Paul Matisz (Peterborough, Ontario) - Email Me

I was at Montebello, and I'm not surprised at all by the presence of agents provocateurs. I've seen them at every protest I've been to since Quebec City in 2001. The fellows in the video were only one of three teams of provocateurs operating in the crowd that day.

I'm also not surprised that they got caught on video... it was bound to happen one day, and let's face it: the instant availability of sites like YouTube have radically changed the paradigms of media-savvy protest, and we're all trying to catch up. The police have always had a considerably slower response time to change than activists.

I find it wonderful that, despite this kind of underhanded dealing by the cops, Montebello was largely peaceful -- so much so that the mayor of Montebello has stated that he would "welcome back an international summit — and the protesters such a meeting attracts — any time."

Someone Check Nixon's Grave Aug 23rd. at 12:58:16 am EDT

I think it might be empty. It might be a good idea to check on J. edgar Hoover's grave also.
