Title: UNLIKELY MASONIC BROTHERS
Generals Wolfe and Montcalm have something else in common besides a monument marking their death the same day on opposite sides of the same field outside the walls of Quebec City in the most famous battle ever fought on Canadian soil.
They might have been foes on the battlefield, but beyond that they were fellows in the world's oldest and largest fraternal organization - The Order of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, commonly called the Freemasons, or simply Masons, who currently number 5 million worldwide.
Under different circumstances, in the neutral confines of a Masonic lodge, where discussion of current politics is proscribed, they might have embraced as brothers in spirit, if not in arms, and spent a convivial evening swapping yarns about the Knights Templar and the intrigues of King Solomon's court, subjects dear to Masonic lore.
