Most Gitmo Detainees Freed After Transfer

Author: AP   Source: MSNBC

Title: MOST GITMO DETAINEES FREED AFTER TRANSFER

The Pentagon called them "among the most dangerous, best-trained, vicious killers on the face of the Earth," sweeping them up after Sept. 11 and hauling them in chains to a U.S. military prison in southeastern Cuba.

Since then, hundreds of the men have been transferred from Guantanamo Bay to other countries, many of them for "continued detention."

Decisions by more than a dozen countries in the Middle East, Europe and South Asia to release the former detainees raise questions about whether they were really as dangerous as the United States claimed, or whether some of America's staunchest allies have set terrorists and militants free.

The United States does not systematically track what happens to detainees once they leave Guantanamo, the U.S. State Department says. Defense lawyers and human rights groups say they know of no centralized database, although one group is attempting to compile one.

But through interviews with justice and police officials, detainees and their families, and using reports from human rights groups and local media, The Associated Press was able to track 245 of those formerly held at Guantanamo.

One has to wonder, reading this article, if the current "transfers" to other countries of Gitmo detainees is intended for any purpose but to scatter the evidence of Bush regime crimes and make investigations by Democrat led Congressional panels more difficult?

Of 800 or so victims, 360 "transfered" under terms which other countries have converted to release without trial in 80% of cases. 14 prosecutions, zero convictions, among the others so far. Some cases where when our own JAG-types are allowed to see classified case files, our own military lawyers talk about the presence of exculpatory evidence and no basis to prosecute any alleged crimes. No wonder the Bush regime needed dirty tricks to stay outside our law, as under normal legal process, that's prosecutorial misconduct in a form qualifying for the prosecutors to become convicted felons (though rarely enforced in our domestic courts either) .

ZERO detainees convicted out of hundreds of the world's most dangerous alleged scoundrels?

ZERO convictions among all of the USA, our so-designated enemy countries, and our allies, among the Gitmo victims we've retained and the almost half we've transfered to other countries?

Not even the most perverse techniques Nam POW's have described from Viet Cong torture camps seem adequate for use on the Bush regime officials causing these abuses. But, a mix of those the Gonzales' list of "not torture" techniques could be a start, if they could somehow be imposed starting at the White House, then Pentagon, and including members of Congress and black ops contractors who have "served our country".

I'm still waiting for a single US military person to prove they have "served our country" in recent years, based on the Constitutional oath. Who, pagan or otherwise, has "stopped", meaning exterminated, other troops or political or "brass" corrupt mob bosses conspiring in illegal wars and other tactics to evade domestic and international laws?

Those fine patriots, if any exist, deserve praise, and support if they've survived the Bush regime without being killed off as "friendly fire" losses.

All other troops, noting no one currently serving has been coerced by a draft, deserve far harsher criticism, if not also criminal penalties, than did those who engaged in the Viet Nam fiasco.
