Priest: Yoruba Gods Protect Fidel Castro

Author: Reuters   Source: Reuters

Title: YORUBA GODS PROTECT FIDEL CASTRO – PRIEST

Yoruba gods protect ailing Fidel Castro from witchcraft and want to see him continue leading Cuba, the first priest of the Santeria religion to be elected to parliament said on Monday.

"Olodumare says he is the one that should be there and so he is untouchable," said Antonio Castaneda, a babalawo (priest) in the religion slaves brought to colonial Cuba from Nigeria.

Hurricanes may batter Cuba this year, but Castro's health will not break, according to the orishas (deities), he said.

I wonder if I could get elected to public office in the US if I asserted that Cernunnos had blessed W's term in office. Doesn't matter if it'd be true; I want to know what'd happen....

Why Wouldn't Fidel Have God/goddess Blessing? Jan 23rd. at 12:47:53 pm EST

Mars (brooklyn, New York) - Email Me

I'm a bit surprised at the animosity toward fidel and the incredulity of god/goddess blessings.

let's consider-- in Cuba:

citizens get free universal health care

citizens have guaranteed lifetime
employment

children get free public education, with illiteracy eliminated

racial discrimination is nonexistant

church and state are strictly separated

cuba apparantly tolerates paganism

cuba has very strict gun control laws

prostitution, pornography and other ventures profiting from exploitation of women are effetively suppressed, and

the gaps between the rich and the poor have been eliminated.

It sounds very much like the way some of our popular presidential candidates are headed. i'm sure many of us wish bright blessings on them-- why not fidel?

Why not? The North Koreans claim Kim Jong Il is the best golfer on Earth and the GOP claims Chimpy McFlightsuit speaks to their "god" on a daily basis.

I remember the political cartoon surrounding the death of Chairman Mao.
It showed a couple of the Red Guards accompanying the Chairman's body cosseted in a taxidermy shop.
To say that any man is invincible or protected by gods is a fallacy in itself. Besides, One can bet that dear ol' Fidel has his own form of immortality insured. When his family assumes the throne after they officially bury him.

A priest (of any religion) making such a declaration of the intent of the gods risks damaging the faith of his followers if his prediction proves false. I can think of no greater harm than to diminish another's faith.

If he isn't an idiot and a fake then my guess is that the gods might have told him to say this message only to discredit him since he obviously has political aspirations. If that is true, expect old FC to kick the bucket pretty soon.
