New Believer’s Home Burnt Down By Villagers In Central India

Author: Joseph Keenan Source: Christian Post

Title: NEW BELIEVER’S HOME BURNT DOWN BY VILLAGERS IN CENTRAL INDIA
A witchcraft practicing woman and unknown villagers had burnt down a home of a man who has embraced Christianity in a Central Indian state as the “cast spells have no more effect on the new believer”.
Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC) reported Tuesday that the house of Raj Bahor family was burnt down because the casts spell by their neighbour lady who practices sorcery and witchcraft became ineffective on him ever since he became a Christian.

I find it hard to take anyone seriously who can't use a search engine. I did a simple search of the words Christian, India, and Burning and found plenty of sites (of a non-religious nature) covering the rather dire things going on down there. Here is one:
[Web LINK]
I picked that one because it is clearly the most bland and unreligious site one can imagine. I'm counting in the other window and I have found twenty three articles of a similiar nature. If you can't find them, you aren't looking very hard.

I'm not thrilled when anyone loses their home, but the fact that the original article says that a neighborhood witch did it with help is one big reason I say hmm.
Does anyone recall the last news from India where it was a witch that was burned? It's not likely that this "witch" they accused had anyone on her side. (link below)
The Sanatana Dharma is at odds with the Christian presence in India for several reasons, and we all know how they (the Christians) like to call foul at the least bit of resistance to assimilation. For all we know this dude had too many candles lit on his shrine and his toddler knocked one over. But his new set of ethics say it's okay to blame anyone they don't like, so why not persecute the old woman down the path? Remember, these are the same group that literally deified their scapegoat!
I don't feel obligated to be nice when talking about this situation. Too many of the Christian ideologies and practices leave a bad taste in my mouth. As individuals, it's different, but this is an organisation attacking a local witch (if there even is one) and an attempt to drum up sympathy to promote their mission. What I said in a former post was the truth in my own words and I stand by them.

A google search on the title of this article shows that not one single independent news organization has picked up this story. That does not mean it is not true - but it does mean that there is no basis for assessing what the truth of the story might be.
All hits from the google search are either fundamentalist Christian propaganda websites, or links to the Witchvox article: [Web LINK]

I suspect Wren does do some fact-checking before she puts things up here. I have always found her reliable in that department. However, if you feel there is some sort of conspiracy going on to frame those of the Hindu faith, test the theory. Do a quick search of Christians, burning, and India. You will find that the man whose house was burned down was one of the lucky ones. He is still alive. There is a growing number of extremists in India who are attacking Christians (rape, murder, and mutilation) in certain areas. This isn't new. Historically (and in modern times) there are many belonging to pagan faiths that have been more than eager to indulge in all manner of mayhem. Religion has always been the excuse cited, not the cause of such antics.
For my own part, I feel sorry for the man whose house was burned down. I feel sorry for any poor slob of any faith who is assaulted without cause. I disgusts me when certain posters here (my peers of sorts unfortunately) use these events to vent their own irrational hatred of Christianity and indulge in childish name calling and willful distortions of spelling. The "Jebus" thing seems all the rage these days. This kind of thing portrays us all as lunatics and extremists whose hate would likely go just as far as any others if given half a chance.

This story is only being circulated by Fundamentalist Christian websites .... and, unfortunately, by Witchvox.
What's up with that?
Unless you have made at least some effort to find out whether the story is even true in the first place - or has any basis in fact whatsoever - then you are just facilitating pro-Christian, anti-Hindu propaganda.
How hard is that to understand?

. . .that many posters can do no more than decry someone's belief. Modern Paganism has always been about a belief in "Many Mansions", i.e., that there are many paths, all of them true in a philosophical sense.
Anti-Christian diatribes do nothing more than lower us as Pagans to the level of those who rant against Paganism.
Yes, in the past I've had nasty things to say about those who attack my beliefs as a Wiccan, mostly by pointing out that we have a 1st Amendment right to freedom of religion guaranteed by our Constitution. But I have not, not ever will, attack someone's personal and dearly held beliefs.
And to be bluntly honest, I've even been attacked by fellow Pagans.
This poor family were attacked because of their personal religious beliefs, as many here, and elsewhere, have been. Though we may disagree with the family's theological ideals, we should empathize with the lose of hearth and home.

I'm very sorry he lost his home, but at least he's no longer in the dark about his neighbors, who might have chosen some other method to harm him in some way for some other reason if he hadn't converted.

She wasn't paying attention to how full of s**t xian mythology really is, IF this were true. Their Jebus has even less power than Jareth the Goblin King had over Sarah...although I wonder how one can measure "negative power."
