'Bunshinsaba' Strikes At Forced Conformity

Author: Yang Sung-jin   Source: The Korean Herald

Title: 'BUNSHINSABA' STRIKES AT FORCED CONFORMITY

In a homogeneous society, it is often dangerous to be different from others. People come under enormous pressure to follow the widely held beliefs, fashions and lifestyle pursued by a majority of society. Straying from this perceived normalcy, or collective uniformity, invites a severe backlash.

"Bunshinsaba," opening this Thursday, is a horror flick that attempts to explore a dark side of the human psyche - an inexplicable fear of being alienated from other community members and a cruel tendency to punish those who do not follow the unwritten, yet powerful rules of conformity.

Conformity: The Big Destroyer Aug 3rd. at 8:29:15 pm EDT

Some of us who are, and always have been, non-conformists don't need to watch a horror flick about problems associated with conformity to realize the problems that conformists cause. Hmmm... perhaps they should make a film about some of my conformist neighbors... really scarry people who keep calling zoning to complain about my certified wildlife habitat yard, and one person who's trying to get the local community association to have a meeting about the need for "community assimilation" (scarry words!) in an attempt to put a stop to the wild herbs and wildflowers that I have here, and is attempting to frighten others into thinking that such styles of landscaping draw rats.

Doesn't it seem strange, and most illogical, that allowing Nature's plants, which have medical, cullinary and magickal uses---and serve as food for wildlife, to grow on one's property, can result in one being charged with an actual crime that can result in jail time?

At least we know, from the research of David Weeks and Jamie James, and their book _Eccentrics_, that eccentricity is healthier (well, it would be if some conformists would leave us alone) , physically and psychologically, than conformity. :-)

p.s. - if anyone, who isn't too far from Western Baltimore County or Eastern Howard County, MD, is interested in attending a meeting in September to help educate such people about the benefits of natural gardening, wild herbs and wildlife habitats, please contact me. Find More info -- HERE

Conform Or Die!! Aug 2nd. at 9:27:31 pm EDT

Juniper Jupiter, I know which movie you are thinking of. It is titled "Brazil", about a man who dares to dream un-sanctioned dreams, think un-sanctioned thoughts, and express his inner-most desires by way of **being different**.

Of course, another possibility would be "Metropolis", with Charlie Chaplin, since it is the grand-daddy of all such films about what happens to those who refuse to conform in a conformist society. Another one is "Animal Farm".

"Metropolis", "1984", "Animal Farm", and "Brazil" are all good works. They all three tell of what will happen if we allow ourselves to be ruled by Social Conformity.

----nasionnaich - happy to conform, so long as the conformity is non-habit forming and totally non-conformist

I Can't Wait To See This!! Aug 2nd. at 3:05:45 pm EDT

The plot sounds familiar, but I can't quite put my finger on it. I keep thinking of that Twilight Zone movie with that boy from the Hogan Family wishing bizarre things and the family that's scared to death of him. But it also reminds me of another film....what is it???!!!!
