Sky Kingdom And The Universality Of Religions

Author: Ushiv   Source: Malaysiakini (Malaysia)

Title: SKY KINGDOM AND THE UNIVERSALITY OF RELIGIONS

What Malaysia, and the world at large, needs is more such genuine non-political people with no vested interests and hidden agendas in the dissemination of religious knowledge.

If God wanted all of humankind to be of one race and religion, I am sure he could achieve this by in a wink of an eye! Obviously that was not the case, and all religions and races exist by His mercy.

That being the case, and when almost all religions do not make their following a compulsion, why then are there judges and self-proclaimed religious masters trying to say that the God of one religion is not the same as the God of another?

Why do we always harp on the superiority of one race and religion over the others. Herein lies the basic problem with us today. Why can’t we accept that different cultures and different races refer to the one and only God by whatever name they are familiar with?

That was a great article. Summed up perfectly.

BTW, if you honestly *believe* there are many separate gods, you are STILL worshipping/believing in the same general concept as all other religious people. Those gods for you are real aspects of the same overarching, abstract idea of a "higher power" that other religions might call "God, " "Allah, " "The One, " etc. Yes, you may believe that they are literally separate individual gods but they serve the same purpose in your life and world as "God" does for a Christian. See what I mean? That's the concept the article was trying to convey. It all has the same role in the individual's life.

So What Aug 4th. at 10:18:21 pm EDT

by Athenea (Alabama) - wc_xemail

If some people believe that there are many Gods, and that they are all different and distinct personalities and not part of a greater "whole"?

Why can those who believe there is only one God be happy and secure in their faith and allow those who believe differently to be happy and secure in THEIR faith?

I believe that this is the message that the author is trying to convey here...that it really doesn't matter what name you use; what matters is the fact that your belief fulfills your spiritual needs. Also, it shouldn't matter to anyone else what an individual's personal spiritual beliefs are, because they are just that...INDIVIDUAL.

Why? Aug 4th. at 7:03:54 pm EDT

by William (NS, Canada) - wc_xemail

"Why can’t we accept that different cultures and different races refer to the one and only God by whatever name they are familiar with?"

"If a watermelon is a tembikai in Malay, a terboos in Hindi and a sai kuah in Cantonese, why can’t God also be known by a million names? Why should our children be taught that other religions don't worship the same God as us, but another entity altogether?"

Simple... because not everyone believes in only ONE God.
And no... not everyone believes that 'many' gods are just aspects of ONE god either.
There are people who believe that there are MANY gods, each as individual as we are.
However, overall he is a step closer to bringing people together than those who condemn any god not their own.

This Guy Is Just Askin' For It Aug 4th. at 5:16:21 pm EDT

This guy is just asking to be crucified, or at the very least stoned. Can't have somebody spewing wisdom, tolerance, understanding and love of humanity all over the globe, now can we?

Now if only there were more people who felt that way. I applaud the level-headed author of this piece.

What PBS Jones said. =)

A friend of mine once said, rather vehemently, "There's only one god and his name is God!"

To the people who profess this as their faith: If this is true, then why are you worried about and angry at people who don't believe that? According to your belief, don't we all come from the same place? Aren't we all "God's children, " according to that tenet?

Hey! Aug 4th. at 11:23:55 am EDT

Wait a minute -- who let this person speak? Who does he think he is, speaking these crazy, unpatriotic words? Why, this traitor should be horsewhipped! He should be investigated by the FBI, the CIA and the NSA! And check out his kids, too!

Oh, wait. He wasn't speaking in the U.S.

Nevermind.
