Dolphin Rescues Stranded Whales

Author: AP Source: CNN

Title: DOLPHIN RESCUES STRANDED WHALES
A dolphin swam up to two distressed whales that appeared headed for death in a beach stranding in New Zealand and guided them to safety, witnesses said Wednesday.
The actions of the bottlenose dolphin -- named Moko by residents who said it spends much of its time swimming playfully with humans at the beach -- amazed would-be rescuers and an expert who said they were evidence of the species' friendly nature.

we a taught that its survival of the fittest and we being at the top of the foodchain, but it happens all the time that other species help us we are really all related and strive to help our fellow species instead we inslave them in the process we inslave ourselves and all sentiant beings. this shows us we can help distressed animals.

I've been saying for many years that dolphins are better and smarter than humans. There are a lot of lessons that our more evolved cousins can teach us, if only we could get out of our own way long enough to listen!

animals can't communicate to humans. That was amazing and it just goes to show us how different species can transcend language to show that beneath all our differences, we are all living beings. We are all connected. That spoke to me more than words. Animals don't talk? Oh, yes they do. They speak to me.

This is just one of a number of accounts by eyewitnesses when dolphins actually do something to protect another. There was an account where four swimmers were suddenly surrounded by a group of dolphins who were aggressively surrounding them and slapping their tails. The swimmers were frightened and one swimmer managed to look below the surface and saw a shark uncomfortably nearby. Dolphins do band together to protect their young from sharks but they have been known to intercede for others with no sign that they culd benefit from the protective action.
Also the dolphin brain seems to have an area as big as our own corresponding to empathy.
