Witches' Daggers Seized By Customs

Author: Nathan Crombie   Source: Wairarapa Times Age (NZ)

Title: WITCHES' DAGGERS SEIZED BY CUSTOMS

Christmas for some Masterton witches has been caught up in a cut-and-thrust customs war over imported ceremonial knives.

Dave Hannay, owner of Napier retail outlet King of Knives, said he has battled for a year with customs officers over a consignment of 230 fake knives and swords that were in part bound for covens in Masterton as well as freemasons across New Zealand.

Mr Hannay said some of the Chinese-made knives and swords had been destined for witches in Masterton that comprise a major and a minor coven in the town.

Sounds Like There Is A Market For A Blacksmith Dec 26th. at 7:57:14 am EST

Blacksmithing is a fun and interesting craft.

Link is to the Artist Blacksmith Association of New Zealand. I'm sure these fine folks have more information on where one might learn the skills required to work iron.

Or you can get yourself a $50 Dremel kit from the nearest hardware chain of your choice and grind another edge on a kitchen knife.

Or you can also realize that a bread knife works just as well, plus it cuts bread.

Speaking From Experiance Dec 24th. at 10:47:05 pm EST

Ritual Daggers and swords are hard to come by in New Zealand, mosty because they don't get past customs, and there is a massive amount of red tape needed to get them past customs. this is because of the law concering double edged blades here in the land of the long white clound. unless it is a religious item as a general rule you are not allowed to import or own a double edged blade longer than 10cm, (around 5inches) however to get the item recgnoised as a religious item aka an atheme or sword used in pagan cermonies, you need to contact the police, get a letter from them stating that you are not a criminal with a hankering to stab people, and then you need to notify customs to saying that you will be importing said items, and here is you letter from the police to say that yes it is a religious item and not used for stabbing people, hopefull, (after the police have done their check and red tape paper work) the infomation arrived at customs befor the daggers do, other wise you will find that customs destroy them, mostly becasue they do not understand nor do they want to.

from this article i do hope that customes here in new zealand get their collective heads out of their asses, and figure out that these ritual items are important to pagans here in New Zealand and it becomes easier to get them.. *nodsI

sometimes. New Zealand feels like a country on a far away planet..

hope everyone has a fantastic summer soltice yule and xmas.. mmk..

(ps sorry about the spelling..)

I say NZers should lobby the government to let them own weapons. In addition to a violation to religious liberty, this is also an individual liberties issue. After all, disarming the citizenry is the first step towards a tyranny.

A Fuss Over Toys? Dec 24th. at 6:30:27 pm EST

bigcat (peoria, Illinois) - Email Me

Toy swords do not a weapon make- double-edged or no. And what they've confiscated are nothing but toys in a broad sense of the word.
I hope they can get their daggers back- or get others to replace them.

Double What Edge? Dec 24th. at 1:29:48 pm EST

Ahr-Ohn (Bridgeport, Connecticut) - Email Me

"He said the knives and swords featured hilts of hard plastic covered with nickel and resin and blunt stainless steel blades, and fell into the category of offensive weapons because of the double edges. "

There are no edges so, as weapons, they would only be offensive to rhyme and reason.

If New Zealand is so afraid of Knives, he should go make Customs surrender the stolen hord. I don't know if he should threaten them with a Box Cutter, or a Butter Knife.

"They're in the freemasons' style with spirituality in the blades and handles," he said. "

Spirituality might be in the remembrance, but the toys would be covered in spiritual symbols, such as the Eye of Imhotep.

Haven't the Masons got any lawyers?

If you want real spirituality, in your weapons, I'd suggest Dagda's Cauldron, or even Afagddu's.

"Generally the covens are made up of menopausal women without meaning any disrespect whose children have grown and left home. They seem to get more in touch with the world and nature. It's more a social thing I think, not just spiritual or personal."

Better to say, their spirituality can touch on Earth and the World, including a social existence, now that Nature isn't driving them to Husbands and other Children.

Why is NZ Customs involving itself in Protectionism? Is there a local artisan that they favor?

With plastic handles and fake blades? Sounds to me like the customs folk were doing the customers a favor!
