Saudi Executes Egyptian For Practicing "Witchcraft"

Author: Reuters   Source: Reuters

Title: SAUDI EXECUTES EGYPTIAN FOR PRACTICING "WITCHCRAFT"

Saudi Arabia executed on Friday an Egyptian man convicted of "sorcery", desecrating the Muslim holy book and adultery, the official news agency said.

The Saudi Press Agency said Mustafa Ibrahim was put to death in Riyadh in a controversial case which has drawn criticism from rights activists.

It said Ibrahim had been accused by another foreign resident of practicing magic in order to separate him from his wife and said evidence had been found in his home, including books on black magic, a candle with an incantation "to summon devils" and "foul-smelling herbs".

"He confessed to adultery with a woman and desecrating the Koran by placing it in the bathroom," the agency said.

I am thankful I live in the UK in the 21st century and that I am surrounded by tolernat people.

This article proves that Witch Trials and Witch Hunts still go on.

Saudi Arabia is a very strict Muslim country so it doesn't really surprise me. Saddens yes, surprises no.

Divination, magick, spells and any form of the Occult or the New Age is forbidden under Islam. I once remember a couple of classmates at school being criticised by a teacher for reading their horoscopes in a magazine. (Thankfully most of the Muslims at school were very tolerant of my beliefs and very accepting. Well, in the sixth form at least, lower down there was speculation.) This is because Muslim's believe that practicing divination indicates you believe in something other than Allah instead of accepting Allah as the one true god. (Yes that does make it sound like Islam is an intolerant religion but you have to distinguish between Islam and the people who follow it.)

It does put a black mark on Saudi Arabia and their form of Islam is so strict they won't even allow voice overs on adverts because it would sound too much like Allah's voice. (In short it would be blasphemy.)

Whether they caught him with anything or not, this is a country and a situation that could have condemned him on mere hearsay alone.
It was the same way in the witch trials, once proclaimed guilty, those condemned are never innocent--even if they are.
And this is the kind of life the Fundies here wish on us.

I always said the islamic religion had the furthest to go in maturity and human rights, and t his just proves it.... I agree with what others are saying - this is what the fundies would have for US if we let them.

No matter how bad it is for Pagans in the U.S., we still got it good here. Remember, freedom of religion is #1 on the Bill of Rights.

Is this what the Muslim countries want for Pagans (and guys who play the field) ? A summary execution?

Wonder how they feel about all those Wiccan/Pagan US soldiers over there right now?
