War On Witches

Author: Brian Whitaker (Blog) Source: The Guardian (UK)

Title: WAR ON WITCHES
Mustapha Ibrahim, an Egyptian living in Saudi Arabia, was executed in Riyadh on Friday after being convicted of sorcery. According to the official Saudi News agency:
"Ibrahim had been accused by another foreign resident of practising magic in order to separate him from his wife and ... evidence had been found in his home, including books on black magic, a candle with an incantation 'to summon devils' and 'foul-smelling herbs'."
For good measure, he had also confessed to adultery with a woman and desecrating the Qur'an by placing it in the bathroom, the agency added.
A year ago, the commission for promotion of virtue and prevention of vice (the religious police) in the Saudi city of Taif established a special department to combat witchcraft. So far, it has arrested 25 people - 24 of whom, interestingly, are non-Saudis.
Fahd al-Thubaiti, the chief witch-hunter, told Arab News: "People need to understand the danger of witchcraft and its negative effects on society in general. No one can be a good Muslim and believe in black magic at the same time."
Setting aside the undertones of sexism and racism in the kingdom's war on witchcraft, most of the recent Saudi cases fall into one of three categories.

Ahr-Ohn (Bridgeport, Connecticut) - Email Me

I wouldn't myself object to Korans, or similar scripture, in the Wash-Room, where people would have time to read, and may someday write The Little Scroll on a bathroom wall. It seems to me that, a pharmacist who places The Koran in washrooms, is likely trying to encourage his neighbors to read that book, but may have over-estimated their Literacy. He was executed, where the Koran was considered more Holy than Legible, and I recall an early Star Trek on just that problem.
Let this Moslem be remembered as an Angel of Literacy, Martyr Class.

Whitewolf (Schenectady, New York) - Email Me

Whatever!
WHEN will the islamic religion, and ESPECIALLY the "men" who follow it, GROW UP???? I like the quote, "For some reason, women are more vulnerable to charlatens" Oooo-k, are we back in Kindergarten, or what? The "men" over there seem to think, and I apologise in advance if this offends, that a penis is either another brain, a magic wand or Staff of Command!
GET OVER IT, GUYS!
I am waiting for the day that the so-called women over there get so damn FED UP with the BS and stand up and say ENOUGH! ( ain't holding my breath.... ) Apparently the women are going to have to take back their rights pretty much BY FORCE and MAKE IT STICK. The first step would be to get rid of the tents they wear over themselves ( burkas ) . I am not ashamed of being female, and neither should they be. If your husband wants to beat you, BEAT HIM BACK! As the ol' saying goes, 2 can play THAT game. And they have to start learning to use one little word with the men....
NO.
Sorry if I digressed from the article, but this is a subject that has cramped my cookies for a long time. A good dose of The Pagan Path would ONLY do GOOD over there!
Please pardon the typos!
Love to all

Shadow Dragon (nashville, Tennessee) - Email Me

This is bigger than you think. These countries under go ethnic cleansing right before they go to war. The Talaban blew up the Buddhist statues right before the 9/11 attack. Syria had these witch hunts and now there at war with Israel thru Lebanon.

Draken (Bronx, New York) - Email Me - Web

The author of this article asked a bunch of idiots to at least join the 18th century when everyone knows for a fact that this backwards society hasn't lept itself forward since the christianists went on a bloody rampage at Rome's blessing a thousand years ago.

Mysteries Child (Garfield, Arkansas) - Email Me

I'm particularly touched by passages like these:
"Fahd al-Thubaiti, the chief witch-hunter, told Arab News: 'People need to understand the danger of witchcraft and its negative effects on society in general. No one can be a good Muslim and believe in black magic at the same time.' "
And:
"Blaming the apparent growth of witchcraft on TV programmes that promote magic, he continued: 'For some reason, women are more attracted to black magic and tend to be easy prey for charlatans. They consult these people to ensure their husbands love them and do not seek other women, and to beget children.' "
Well, gee. Those nasty women. Just because they're living in a society where their husbands can throw them away as easily as *that*, leaving them with no legal means of support except to hope'n'pray that their fathers or brothers will take them back...
Geez. Some people will use any excuse.
*sarcasm*
Maybe we should share this article with some of our FunDoMilitant 'friends.'
Do you think they'd take the time to look in the mirror??
There's no end to the maggot-ridden suppurating septic sh*t leaking out of some people, is there??
My apologies if I have hurt the feelings of any actual maggots, who perform a valued and necessary role in the Cycle.
