Saudis To Behead 'Witch'

Author: Herald Sun   Source: Herald Sun

Title: SAUDIS TO BEHEAD 'WITCH'

Saudi Arabia's religious police plan to behead a woman accused of being a witch, a human rights group says.

Human Rights Watch has asked the country's king to intervene over "absurd charges that have no basis in law".

Fawza Falih was arrested and interrogated in the northern town of Quraiyat two years ago and sentenced to death.

The judges who convicted her relied on her forced confession and the statements of witnesses who said she had "bewitched" them.

Witchcraft is considered an offence against Islam in Saudi Arabia.

...make me wonder why so many pagans rant and rave against the Catholic church. Religious persecution is alive and well in our world today, and if anyone is going to wage war on the pagans, it's going to be the Muslims.

Heck, we're kill on sight in a number of Muslim nations, and second class citizens in the rest. It's a good thing we have our eyes on the mild-mannered Christians, though. I can sleep easy at night.

...but unfortunately expected from theocrat idiots. Please pray for this woman and be thankful of how damn lucky we are to have religious freedom in the western world.

it's a difficult place. Both use the same books, with local editorial changes-veneficia=witch. In Ancient Rome beneficia/veneficia also meant doctor, over the centuries the definition was deformed, via slang, to mean what it does now. Pharmokopeia/poisoner/doctor/witch.

Unfortunately, its things like this that give Muslims a bad rap. Please don't assume that all Muslims are bigoted and closed minded because a few are. Many years ago, I worked with a lovely woman who happened to be Muslim. She knew of my beliefs, and it didn't phase her one bit. She asked questions with an open mind, and answered questions I had about her path with openness and honesty. This is how I prefer to view those of the Muslim faith: Kind, open, honest, and strong enough in their beliefs that they are not threatened by those who hold other beliefs. At least, I like to think the majority of Muslims are like this. There are Muslims from all parts of the world. From what I understand, there are as many variations, depending on how the scripture is translated, as there are variations on Christianity.

There are closed-minded, bigoted people in every path, in every corner of the world. Pagan paths are not excluded from this, no matter how much we like to think so.

That being said, I agree that that particular country needs to get it's legal system out of the dark ages. Many of the folks posting comments at the end of the first article assumed that she is a witch, but the truth of the matter is that she is most likely a Muslim woman, who was blamed by some guy because he couldn't face the fact that he has ED, and was embarrassed about getting a prescription for that "little blue pill".

I'm beginning to think that the only way for this reign of terror to end would be if we had a big meteor strike or a supervolcano to go off at the same time. I have always felt that organized religion--of any stripe- is the worst possible invention of human kind.
While I'm glad I don't live in Saudi Arabia, I feel pity for those that do that have fallen afoul of the "Religious Police".
