Saudi King Calls For New Interfaith Dialogue

Author: Reuters Source: Reuters

Title: SAUDI KING CALLS FOR NEW INTERFAITH DIALOGUE
Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah plans to launch an effort at dialogue between Islam, Christianity and Judaism to help end inter-religious tension, Saudi media said on Tuesday.
State television showed the octogenarian king telling a forum in Riyadh that he would hold meetings with Muslims around the world to build a consensus for a new dialogue with Christians and Jews.
"I want to call for conferences between the religions to protect humanity from folly," he said in a speech where he spoke positively of his meeting last year with Pope Benedict.

...And when that power paradigm focuses on power over others at the cost of virtues, specifically, then yes, we have cause for concern since the flip side of the facade of such interfaith peace is flare ups and ongoing forgotten injustice and atrocities for more inclusive pluralists.

For all out there who think any other faith beside the bastard children of Abraham will be at that table is misguided. These faiths may fight between each other, over textual accuracy because they all share the same texts with variations Jesus is the most quoted prophet in the Quran, but when it comes down to something they agree on its that Witches and Pagans don't have the right to exist. Remember the Exodus "Thou shalt not suffer" comes out of the old testament and they all share it.
So this meeting is about power and not interfaith, because all three stem from the same head waters of Abraham.
We need to realize that freedoms are never given they are taken, because a group must respect you to give you your freedom and that must be won through action some times violently.

Financially supports Islamist fundie preachers
Regularly condemns people to death even when Sharia law and the Haditha require mercy
Has some of the worst human rights records on the planet *specifically implemented* as part of his rule.
I think he is doing this as a cynical ploy to pretend he actually gives a rat's behind about anything the West has to say. I think he is slightly worried that after taking all our money and raising OPEC prices, there is a remote chance that people might get really, really sick of Middle Eastern BS and find a reason to come after him, bomb his country, and appropriate his oil.
I mean, while the US is bombing evildoer dictators and all...

an "A" for effort, but as a lot of others have stated, I don't think he will get very far. And BTW, I agree with AnnieBW.... A COMPLETE AND UNCONDITIONAL PARDON FOR THE LADY ACCUSED OF "WITCHCRAFT" - it's NOT her fault her lazy, fata**ed so-called "husband" couldn't get it up!
Love to all

| It Sounds Great But...... | Mar 25th. at 11:17:49 pm EDT

Mordechai (Edmond, Oklahoma) - Email Me

I know I know it sounds great but i read an article chalk full of quotes from the King and alot of comments he made were along the lines of the big 3 unifying because they have the same god and turning their focus from eachother to whomever they consider blasphemous, immoral, evil, and those who defy the basic principles of the big 3's idealology. There is a good and a bad here. The bad is that unlike America the majority of the xians in th world are catholic and in principally less developed countries this poses and almost assurance of physical violence against our Pagan brothers and sisters. The good is that it is the catholics who are the xians in these discussions and if your not aware to protestants catholics are on the same level as us which means here in America we might actually get a bit of a reprieve on bigotry. Although the catholics that are here will be on us like hungry wolves on a wounded animal because they WILL feel justified if it means unity with the other 2/3 of the big 3. Another problem is that the big 3 have all stated that the feel this is the only way to achieve peace because diplomatics will never work. It is a double eged sword. They either unify and target us and other non-big 3 religions (not to mention what kind of laws could come of this) or this goes in the opposite direction and chaos insues because they once again feel that the other is a complete S***head and we face another holy war. WHich by the way has also been stated. I think that we should figure out what we are going to do while we have this down time!

The pessimistic side of me says it won't accomplish anything, but I'm still holding out that it will gain at least some ground towards peace. Yeah war has always been going on there and probably won't end anytime soon, but a little willingness to listen to each other can't hurt.
And sorry if I'm taking another whack at the hornets' nest, but can well please stop all the lame mindless bashing of "Abrahamic" faiths, especially when they're doing something positive here? Yes I know all about the burning times, but straight thinking Christians/Jews/Muslims today aren't responsible for what their religion's followers did centuries ago or what the fundamentalists continue to do to this day. However we are all responsible for our future, regardless of religion. If we claim to be religiously tolerant, then that means we need to judge people by their actions not their beliefs.

Well, its a start, though it took em a few hundred years or so to get started. If they want peace-they will have to create it. Otherwise, they'll just be wasting their time. And they could start by pardoning the woman accused of witchcraft.

I wonder if anyone else sees the potential ramifications. I mean, each of the so-called "Big 3" has had a hand in oppressing and persecuting various Pagan religions up until and including this day and age. If all three of those a**holes get on the same page, we're f*cked, plain and simple. Bend over and kiss your arse goodbye, because they'll make the Inquisition, Manifest Destiny, Crusades, Boxer Rebellion, AND both Gulf Wars COMBINED look like a rash of schoolyard bullying.

But first, King, you have to pardon the Saudi woman who was accused of witchcraft by her husband because he couldn't get it up, and has been sentenced to execution.

that something like this would happen, especially since an article I read a few weeks ago said that the Vatican and Muslim leaders plan to open 'dialogues' every two years starting this November.
Now, instead of Catholics and Muslims, we have Christians, Jews, and Muslims. This is a really big step forward.

I feel it's about darn time the "Big 3" religions got their act togather, and start living what they preach......tolerance.....respect......and love. I agree that at some point it would be great on a global level that people of ALL religions got in on this.....but.....it needs to start somewhere, and where better to start than where there is the most conflict over one's religion. Yes, we have problems here.....but......people do not get killed over it as happens over there.

OK, why the sarcasm in the comments? This is a huge step for such an intolerant nation. And it is long overdue. The next step is to include alternative religions in the dialogue. We need to applaud this effort. It is a first step, an immature step, but isn't that the only one to take at the beginning of an Age?

Since the only time in modern history these three religions have come together is to denounce gay people in Jerusalem.
