Saudi Religious Police Get Tough On Black Magic

Author: Khaled al Oweigan Source: Asharq Alawsat (UK)

Title: SAUDI RELIGIOUS POLICE GET TOUGH ON BLACK MAGIC
Sources within the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice [CPVPV] in Saudi Arabia have revealed to Asharq Al-Awsat that the CPVPV will move to combat magic and those who practice it, and regulate the exercise of legitimate spiritual healing, by instituting a system designed to deal with such practices which are against Islamic Shariaa Law.
Sources close to the CPVPV leadership in the Saudi capital of Riyadh revealed that a number of legal consultancies were studying the draft version and procedural guidelines of this project. Asharq Al-Awsat managed to obtain a copy of this draft which gives the police the right to deal with witches and sorcerers, and the means to identify and convict them.

Obviously the Saudi Religious Police have decided they don't have enough women to beat simply for being women.

While I know that any form of magic other than that performed in the mosque by the caliphs is forbidden in Islam, this just makes me feel uncomfortable.
For one, it does seem to draw up definitions in a similar style to the Inquisition and will probably start a number of Witch hunts in Saudi Arabia.
It may also affect many other things there as well. Does anyone have any idea what healthcare is like in Saudi Arabia is like? Can they see a doctor or would they have to go to a herbalist or a Witch to seek treatment.
There will probably be death and hatred from all of this with accusation of black magic flying with grudges, greed and mistrust.
It makes me glad that, at least today, we are past that.

Why is the "Burning Times" logo on the article below this one, (regarding Obama's stance toward religion) and NOT on this article? Are the WV editorial folks all in denial of the penalites that will be imposed by the Saudi courts? (death) or the members of this group of "black magic" workers who must be opposed?" (EVERYONE who practices any form of faith healing or non-Muslim based folk medicine AND all members of Animist religions who actually practice their beliefs. And throw in Pokemon and anyone sending a Valentine's Day card.) May we assume that this was a mistake and the BT logo was meant for this story and not the discussion of how non-divisive Obama is trying to be?

Many Mohammedans died at Acre, simply because a similar Christian Inquisition prohibited the Templars from recognizing Mohammed as a Saint.

What bothers me about this, is just how intrusive people can be when armed with the power to turn in their neighbors. I doubt that most of these people would know any form of "black magic" if they saw it. However, this is a good way to persecute anyone who dares not to agree with them on any level.

Someone tell me again how the Middle East is a hotbed for Pagan activity...? Seems like the "parking lot" phrase on how to deal with the REAL terrorists is more and more apt the more I hear about these screwhead fanatics.
