Saudi Religious Police Crack Down On 'Evil' Circuses

Author: Reuters   Source: Fox News

Title: SAUDI RELIGIOUS POLICE CRACK DOWN ON 'EVIL' CIRCUSES

Religious police in Saudi Arabia are cracking down on summer festivals and circuses intended by the government to boost domestic tourism, because they violate strict religious restrictions on singing, dancing, the mixing of unrelated men and women, and "evil" circus performances, Reuters reported.

Conservative clerics backed by powerful members of the Saudi royal family oppose the efforts to liberalize the world's biggest oil exporter. Circus acts such as fire-eating and lying on a bed of glass are seen as forms of magic outlawed by Sharia law.

But They're Our "friends" Aug 27th. at 11:01:01 am EDT

I was in Dharan one day (years ago) , and walking down the street. There was a blind alley. I saw two women in burkas coming out of the alley (there was no way they could have seen me) . I stopped to prevent a collision, letting them go ahead. Immediately, this guy comes across the street and starts beating this little old lady (I'm assuming, she seemed small and moved like she was elderly) with a stick. I took the stick away from him - and I was not gentle about it. I got in trouble. It seems he was a member of said religious police, and was beating this little old lady for stepping in front of a man. This was apparently the correct thing for him to be doing. Needless to say, I was disgusted by the event.

The Saudis hold a telethon every year to raise money for the families of "martyrs" - If you die on a Jihad, you can be sure your family will be taken care of for the rest of their lives...

But they are our "friends" because they have oil... and let our industrial complex help to get it out of the ground and make money on it.

Last time I checked, ALL of the 9-11 hijackers were Saudi citizens...

But they're our "friends"

And Brutus is an honorable man.

Who's there to be offended? I thought they all changed clothes on the plane to Miami. Just so you know... they recirculate waste water for their ship's toilets. Nice.

having any kind of fun and enjoying oneself at any time is considered an abomination.
The trouble with religious polce, is that they are not government sanctioned, able to impose their own will on anyone at any time. In these cases, such a force is often very tyrannical, because there is no one to complain to, and they have free rein,as long as they are in power.
