Cave 'Graves' to Be Inspected

Author: Liela Magnus Source: News24

Title: CAVE 'GRAVES' TO BE INSPECTED
Police are to use dogs to try and determine whether there are any human remains buried under rocks in a cave outside Pretoria {S. Africa}.
The cave, where "graves", candles around a hole {and} female underwear was found, is said to be ideal for occult activities.
But occult co-ordinator of the police, Inspector Dewald Grobler, says despite the fact that the cave is obviously used often, they have found no symbols or signs which point to such activities.
The Constitution stipulates that satanism and occult religions as such are not illegal.

"There is definitely human activity in this cave" he said. Given the female underwear, that's a pretty astute statement. They should promote him to Chief.
Unless he thinks the panties are thousands of years old!

| Caves Are Great... | Jan 9th. at 9:32:21 pm EST |

I feel that the reason Norman Geldenhuys so said that Wiccans don't worship in caves because of our principles might have been because he was trying to get people to think that Wiccans didn't do it. Or maybe he's just an idiot.
I wouldn't so strongly call him an idiot if it weren't for the fact that he said that Pagans -shouldn't- have strict rules (or was that another Norman Geldenhuys?)
I love caves. If I could, I would definately do a ritual in one. They're bautiful and natural.

hmm, candles in no pattern, strange "hole" in the floor, piles of rocks and female underwear...teenagers drinking wine hiding an drug cache and having sex maybe? round here there was an arson scare a while back, a "convenient" fire at a building that was in the way of a road-widening project burned down...they eventually found out that a couple were simply expressing their dissatisfaction with their respective spouses and had kicked a kerosene camping lantern over...this could be the same kind of thing...i'm so sick of everyone jumping up and down and saying this is weird, it must be because of pagans.

I feel like pagan talking heads just deny everything on principle. I've never actually done a ritual in a cave, but I can't see any particular reason not to, and as a previous poster pointed out, they seem appropriate to some rites. The fact that the nearest cave to me is probably about 300 miles might have a lot to do with why I've never seen one used =). Rather than blurting what appears to be a "Ahhh! We're not Satanists, we don't use caves, go away you scare me!" statement, why doesn't this guy do something useful like try to find out if the cave was being used for ritual by a law abiding group. Then the police could clear the whole thing up and everybody could get on with life.

| What About Indigenous Spirituality? | Jan 9th. at 9:06:54 am EST |

by Mar-Garet (SW Pennsylvania)

You'd think that the first thing that would be investigated (In South Africa) is the indigenous beliefs and practices that have to do with caves. The mention of "satanism" and "the occult" are words that have no relevance in a beginning investigation. Their inclusion here simply seems to be a way of introducing fear and negativity into the investigation BEFORE anything is known for certain.

Yeah, now THAT'S a gem of journalistic sentence building!!

| Cave Worship | Jan 9th. at 2:52:34 am EST |

by Lee (Wisconsin) - wc_xemail

I found it very interesting that the last comment was from a Wiccan, who said that Wiccans do not worship in caves! I have been at several rituals which have happened in caves, and our ritual group meets monthly to go cave digging (helping excavate dirt from rock walled caves). Of course Wiccans sometimes worship in caves -- they are the womb of the Mother!
Merry Meet! Lee
