Ancient Mystery Returns As 'Satan's Hoofprints' Are Spotted In Devon Back Garden

Author: Daily Mail Reporter Source: Daily Mail (UK)

Title: ANCIENT MYSTERY RETURNS AS 'SATAN'S HOOFPRINTS' ARE SPOTTED IN DEVON BACK GARDEN
A 150-year-old mystery has reared its head after a woman woke to find 'Satan's hoofprints' dotted across freshly fallen snow in her back garden.
The single track of cloven-like prints - which appear to have been made by a two-legged creature - precisely resemble footprints recorded in the area in 1855.
The phenomenon, which has never been explained, became known as the 'Devil's foot prints' in a local legend.

goats, deer, or even the mythical Faun, from which the vision of the cloven -hooved devil was created. If the prints had been in less of a straight line, I would have guessed Bachaus on his way home from a revel.

I'm no skeptic when it comes to the paranormal, but to think these are the footprints of "the devil" is ridiculous. Like others have said it looks just like that of a deer's or other cloven-hooved animal.

...was the snarky comments at the end. Some people are brilliant when it comes to wit.
I agree that those prints could in fact be anything from deer to a small horse. The picture isn't really all that clear.

Those look like the tracks of a walking or trotting deer, and the size is right . (though the picture isn't that detailed, so I could be missing something) . I see these in my yard frequently, along with the deer who make them. What's so funny is the immediate jump to cloven hoof = devil, as opposed to deer, goat, cow, sheep, an escaped antelope - there's a long, long list. I would say it's an example of the same kind of thinking that results in witch hunts, but more likely it's an example of British tabloid reporting.

Why do these stories never include clear, definitive pictures of the supposed "evidence"? And the words "precisely resemble", all they mean is that the tracks appear to be similar to the ones from 1855 -- not that they are "precisely the same", as the wording of the article would have people believe. (It's like "same difference" - they are either different, or they are the same...not both)
The other fact, clearly visible in the photo, which tells me this is likely a possible hoax: The snow is not "fresh" at all. It is at least a day old, based on the crusted-over appearance of the snow's surface and the definite signs of shoveling at the right-hand side of the photo. It is almost as though someone were trying to cover up their own footprints...............

... I was just talking about the earlier mystery today. Interesting timing.
They do resemble a very sleek cat's prints...

The picture doesn't really do them any justice. It just looks like cat tracks to me.
