Terror Laws May Hit Preaching On Streets

Author: Brian Hutton Source: belfasttelegraph.co.uk

Title: TERROR LAWS MAY HIT PREACHING ON STREETS
The end may be nigh for street preaching in Northern Ireland with the introduction of new anti-terror legislation, it was forecast today.
DUP Strangford Assembly member Jim Shannon believes that laws to be rushed through by the Government in the wake of the London bombings could effectively outlaw open-air evangelism.
Home Secretary Charles Clarke this week announced a raft of measures to target unacceptable behavior related to terrorism, including those believed to be preaching intolerance.
Under the plans a database will be set up of people linked to hate incitement. Any foreigners on the list may face exclusion from the UK.
Mr Shannon said he fears that "the liberty to preach the Gospel on the streets of Northern Ireland" would be impinged by the moves.

Against whom do you think such legislation is more likely to be applied in the United States, the fundamentalist/Pentecostal street-corner preacher, or the Pagan "house church" meeting quietly in a private home? We need to encourage legislation to honor the Goddess of Democracy and Lady Liberty, not the Satanic demons of censorship and lies.

Paisley is currently a member of the British Parliament representing a Northern Ireland district in the House of Commons. After the bombings of 7-7, he made a gracious speech congratulating the Labour government for its restrained and stoic handling of the attack, also praising the Queen for her reaction. Personally, I would think the old bigot would have been the subject of an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) rather then getting elected to Parliament, but I saw the speech myself on C-Span -- perhaps he's moderating in his older age.

one can only hope that it could catch on here, even though it would require an extension of the patriot act, something even the fundies might not want to interfere with. after all, not all terrorists are foreign-- some even live here, as some from the Oklahoma bombing might attest. Who knows. the next religious pamphlet you have shoved into your hand, could have an explosive device attached to it.

If they are so against hatemongering and the spread of hate in the Six Counties, why is nobody doing anything about Rev. Ian Paisley?
Paisley, BTW, is a very frequent visitor to Bob Jones University - even more so than Dubya Bush.
