Pagan Prisoners Allowed Twig Wands In Cells

Author: Jenny Percival Source: The Scotsman

Title: PAGAN PRISONERS ALLOWED TWIG WANDS IN CELLS
Prison officers have been ordered to allow Pagan prisoners to take twigs into their cells to use as magic wands.
The ruling has been announced as part of a prisons policy that requires Pagan prisoners to have the same rights as prisoners of other religions.
The new rules were drawn up with the help of the Pagan Federation, which advised the prison service on what equipment its members needed.

why should I not be allowed the toold of my faith as a pagan? the catholics are allowed a crufifis which can be sharpened to a shank just as quickly as a twig. I have been in county jails in the US that do not even allow a crucifix for this reason

While I feel that some objects may be dangerous, those seeking the Pagan path should be allowed whatever is permissable to worship in their own ways, unless some tool proves too dangerous for a prisoner to use. I'm glad to see that some can have small statues or other things. As for taking someone for a ride, there is always those xtian entities which promise favors for conversion-at taxpayer expense of course.

...Is often associated with tangible objects, particularly in difficult times when people are isolated.
What the article's really about is people being fussed about a twig that's less dangerous than the stub of a pencil... Cause it's Pagan.
'Taking the system for a ride?' Really?

Yes people dont need anything to practic their faith, but I imagine the vast majority of you use pleanty of tools, herbs, crystals etc... Besides, I imagine someone spending time in prison is more in need of religious observance than they would be outside. It's a stressful time in a person's life, and having the gods to turn to may help some people turn away from their crimes.
As long as the items aloud to Pagan prisoners dont risk safety or 'good order' then I really dont see the problem. After all, other faiths are permitted to practice their faith, it would be a great injustice if Pagans were not. I think this is a great step forward for equality.

I think it is quite ridiculous that anyone would absolutely need anything to practice their faith in prison no matter what religion they are. A piece of religious jewelry, maybe a bowl of water, some salt, and a book would be enough. Not anything out of the ordinary at all and definitely nothing that anyone could object to.
