Clues To Ancient Invasion In DNA

Author: BBC News Source: BBC News

Title: CLUES TO ANCIENT INVASION IN DNA
Scientific evidence of an ancient invasion of Scotland from Ireland may have been uncovered by DNA techniques.
Researchers from Edinburgh University said studies of Scots living on Islay, Lewis, Harris and Skye found strong links with Irish people.
Early historical sources recount how the Gaels came from Ireland about 500 AD and conquered the Picts in Argyll.
Scientists said the study was the first demonstration of a significant Irish genetics component in Scots' ancestry.

As the Irish and the Scots were more likely to get along with each other better than they ever did with the English....
DNA has become something of a historical roadmap of late, mirroring the results of warfare and trade and even disaster within the history of mankind. It even often points to more than a few surprises that we would never have known about otherwise.

My Heinz 57 family is Scots-Irish and English. White+white+white = well, white. Then along came my mom of Cherokee descent to add the mix. So we're a hazel eyed and quick tempered mosh.

Actually, it's good that confirmation comes from science - but much of science is confirming what has long been known. As for who it was who conquered the Picts, we've always been told that back in the day, there was an Irish tribe known for causing trouble, so the Powers That Be in Ireland at the time rounded them up and banished them to Scotland. The Picts were going to kill them, but for one of their number catching the eye of a young member of Pictish royalty, and so they were allowed to live.

My clan, Clan Henderson (MacEanruig) has always maintained that we are the descendants of Big Henry Son of King Nechtan (Eanriug Mor Mac Righ Nechtan) the Pictish monarch who fought the invading Irish Dalriadans.

I've long known about this sort of thing. The Dalriadans were a group of Irish who went over to Scotland (of course, neither Ireland nor Scotland were known by those names at the time...) .........
And a few centuries later, a large number of Scots were given land in Ireland as a means of "controlling" the Irish (it was around the time, give or take a century or so, William of Orange was Britain's King) .
I am not at all surprised that there was a mixing of DNA. Actually, show me a sample of "pure" Human DNA taken from anyone living today (completely void of so-called "impurities" from another ethnic/racial group) -- and I'll show you an example of scientific fraud.

I've long said that the Scots were Irish with the good sense to get out of Ireland.
