Iona, a small, windswept island in the Western Hebrides of Scotland, was once one of the most well-known places in Europe. Iona was famous, so the Scottish saying goes, when Oxford was a swamp. "Iona of the green hills, poets will forever sing her praises," one islander wrote.
Though its fame has diminished a little, Iona's mix of pagan Celtic myth and Christian history continues to draw new age and Christian spiritual seekers to its sacred shores. The beauty and unique atmosphere of this island has long attracted artists, writers, poets, musicians and dreamers.
Iona is an extraordinary mix of the pagan and the Christian, a mystic magnet. A spiritual oasis for centuries, it was the ancient magical island home of the Celtic Druids; an old Celtic name for it is Innis na Druineach or the Isle of the Druids.
