Festival Revives Celtic Christmas

Author: BBC Source: BBC News

Title: FESTIVAL REVIVES CELTIC CHRISTMAS
A Father Christmas dressed in green was riding into Llangollen, a yule altar set up and the tradition of the Mari Llwyd - or grey mare - revived.
Saturday's celebration aims to show how many modern-day Christmas traditions are rooted in Celtic history.
Organiser Sarah Meade said many ancient Celtic traditions carried on in Wales until the 1960s.
The yule altar in the town museum revives he tradition where an altar was set up by druids with holly, pine and mistletoe coverings.
Rituals at the altar enacted birthing rites and requests for the sun god's return.

Yay!!! Finally someone has chosen to show what it's all about. Wish I could be in Llangollen for the festivities. (I love that little town.)

Christmas was a Pagan Holiday. As a former Christian now turned Deist Christmas is about 90% Pagan and 10% Christian. I've always wondered when the Christians co-opted the Pagan Yule Holiday and made it Christmas and the "Birth of Christ". Certainly the early Christians would not have celebrated Christmas as we know it today.
