Title: WALES IS ALSO LAND OF OUR MOTHERS
Thank you Catherine Zeta- Jones. If there was a moment of epiphany that nudged me from a keen interest in the history of Welsh women to an obsessive need to Do Something About It, it was the appearance of the Oscar-winning Mumbles goddess in a poll to decide the nation’s icons.
I’ve nothing against Catherine, but scandalously she was the only female who made the top 20 of Wales’ 100 Heroes. As the likes of male historical heavyweights Aneurin Bevan, Owain Glyndwr and Gwynfor Evans jostled for the top spots, the Mask of Zorro star sneaked in at number 13.
In a quest to include Welsh women in the greatest figures of all time, voters seemed to have turned to the pages of Hello! magazine rather than the history books. But who can blame them.
Women have barely made the footnotes of the story of Wales, despite their huge contribution to the nation’s development.

My grandmother was Welsh. I'm not sure how to spell her maiden name right though. But it sounds like Rhasodouski.
