Witchcraft Fears After Pony Attack

Author: Shropshire Star Source: Shropshire Star

Title: WITCHCRAFT FEARS AFTER PONY ATTACK
A Mid Wales horse lover is living in fear of repeat attacks after three of her animals had their tails hacked off.
Lily Ellis, 66, of Llanfair Caereinion, said she had been left distraught by the attacks on her miniature horses, which grow to about 34 inches tall.
The attacks on the horses, which normally are kept in a field beside Mrs Ellis’s house, has prompted the animal lover to warn others of the danger.
“My son read on the internet that police in Scotland have been looking at similar attacks up there. He said it is thought it may be people involved in witchcraft doing it as a part of some ancient ritual.”

Be afraid; be very afraid; Aradia lives in Colorado, and she's a horse lover with PMS. If I wanted any violence done, I'd ask Bastet to do some Lucid Dreaming, but I'm not interested in unnecessary influces of business. Hmmm, Rhiannon lives in Edmunton, Jacque d'Molay's neighborhood; maybe I can pray that she goes south to Westminster, for the winter...

"Wizard's First Rule: people are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People’s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool." - Zedd Zorander, Terry Goodkind's "Wizard's First Rule"

If her son had done his internet research properly he would have seen that Scottish Pagans have been involved in counteracting the lies put about by some about these incidents. But it's easier for people to believe what the tabloids keep feeding them.

This is just ridiculous. A lot of the reasons I've seen posted are right. But you see, this would be one of the reasons you would raise your own horses.
Anna Arcturus- You'd be surprised at how long such a small pony's tail can get. They continue to grow no matter how long they get.

If Ken Ra is correct about the price of a horse tail, it certainly explains why there might be a rash of incidents in rural areas; the article mentioned a similar problem in Scotland.
Rather than the so-called 'attacks' what we have here is the theft of a valuable commodity left standing out in a field near the road at night. The cure is for horse owners to lock their animals in the stable at night, as they ought to be doing anyway.

A while back I was looking for horsehair for a magical tool I was making. A prime horse tail can cost up to $600 American. They are not cheap. Show riders use them to make their horses look like their tail is longer and fuller than it really is. This might be the answer.

Sounds like a new prank for teens seeking mischief. Around rural parts you'd hear of people going "cow tipping", perhaps now it's "horse clipping". Unless there's a big black market demand for contraband violin bows.

Sounds like pranksters, not witches. At least they aren't harming the animals just cutting hair. Still, I can't blame her for being concerned. I wouldn't want someone messing with my pets either.

As comments on the article at the site show, the "hacking" of the tails is exaggerated, no part of the animals were hurt. As it is, I can't imagine their tails could get any longer without dragging on the ground. It's silly to attribute this to witchcraft, but the credibility of the accusation is on par with blaming it on UFOs. No one seems to buy that this has to do with Pagans.
