Judge Blocks Drilling In National Oil Reserve

Author: AP Source: MSNBC

Title: JUDGE BLOCKS DRILLING IN NATIONAL OIL RESERVE
Bush administration is faced with reworking its proposal to lease more than 1 million acres in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska after a judge on Thursday temporarily halted the project in a lawsuit by environmentalists.
Environmentalists filed the lawsuit against the Department of the Interior, the state of Alaska and oil companies in hopes of cordoning off about 600,000 acres of the 23-million acre reserve from more exploratory drilling. The government had planned to open bids on Sept. 27 for about 1.7 million acres, which encompass the area targeted by environmentalists.
The order, filed in U.S. District Court in Anchorage, said the government had not adequately considered the cumulative environmental effects of the lease sales in the eastern and western sections of the reserve.

that would happening would be the oil company involved sticking a big straw in the ground and sucking out the oil.
No...
The area will most likely be developed and a small town would be built were people would live that worked for the oil company. The town would then grow into a city and so on and so on.
What can anyone do?
When we determine that the net value of taking some kind of action far outweighs being subjected to tyranny, the and only then will we do something...not before, even if it means our death.
Until then none of us should lament at the advancement of scoundrels.

"Environmental impact statements addressed the effects of leasing individual parcels, but those reports were too narrow in scope because they did not consider how leasing in the northeastern part of the reserve would affect land and wildlife in the northwestern section, according to the judge's order.
U.S. District Judge James Singleton chastised the defendants for the oversight, writing that they “violated the National Environmental Protection Act.”
If you don't like the laws, talk to Congress, rather than sneaking in the Dark.
Has anyone searched for Oil over 200 Miles from the Alaskan Tundra? I'll bet it's out there, under International Waters, ready to distribute at Fair Market Value.

They found more in the Gulf of Mexico. Look for the shrimp industries to fall by the wayside in the next oil spill.

They just don't get it. The answer to the energy problem is not drilling more holes in the earth looking for oil. The solution is to find and properly exploit renewable sources such as soybeans, corn, garbage, solar, wind, and other as yet even undiscovered methods of energy production.
That's alright, though. When the comming ecological disaster killings off half the world population; maybe, just maybe, some logic will finally be brought into the process. But, then again, probably not.
