Friends, Teachers Of Three Charged In Church Fires Stunned By Arrests

Author: Religion News Service   Source: Journal Now (NC)

Title: FRIENDS, TEACHERS OF THREE CHARGED IN FIRES AT NINE ALABAMA CHURCHES ARE STUNNED BY THE ARRESTS

Ben. Matt. Russ. Their names match their profiles. All-American college boys from the suburbs with big dreams, promising futures, good parents. Between them there was an occasional speeding ticket, the lust for stardom, an unquenchable thirst for beer, but nothing to indicate that they were up to no good in the deep woods of west Alabama.

Benjamin Moseley and Russell DeBusk, both 19, were top theater students at Birmingham-Southern College. Moseley loved the limelight. DeBusk was his sidekick.

Less enthralled with fame and film, Matthew Cloyd, 20, hooked up with the others when he and DeBusk lived in the same dorm.

An academic standout, Cloyd grew up a doctor's son in Shelby County. His true love was deer hunting. But hunting was intertwined with alcohol, and a rebellious anger crept into Cloyd's personality.

About the same time, DeBusk and Moseley started dabbling in the occult. They told friends they were Satanists on a hunt for knowledge, though their friends didn't take it too seriously.

The *really* Scary Part.... Mar 13th. at 10:22:20 pm EST

Riverbend (New Orleans, Louisiana) - Email Me

...is this: "Call me mi amor and we shall drink eric robert rudolph back in to hiding!" he wrote on Facebook in September." Rudolph is the guy who bombed the Olympics, a gay bar, and a Birmingham abortion clinic several years ago and was in hiding in the NC woods for years before a rookie cop finally caught him dumpster-diving. The fact that one of these arsonist kids is refering to him like this is very important--someone is missing something here.

HAHAHAHAHA Mar 12th. at 1:22:39 pm EST

There it is.... I KNEW it would creep into the picture....

But DeBusk apparently had a darker side. Friends said that he and Moseley were Satanists, which DeBusk had explained to friends was "not about worshipping the devil, but about the pursuit of knowledge."
Last summer, DeBusk invited Burgess and others to go demon hunting.

Never mind the fact they liked to drink, tear up the roads avoiding law inforcement,etc.
Let's get the occult angle in there so they can become poor innocent Christian boys misled by Satan and not responsible for their crimes.
Why am I not surprised they played the 'Satan card'.

Blame It On "The Occult" Mar 11th. at 5:10:46 pm EST

I'm sure that people are already starting to blame this on these twerps "dabbling in Satanism", and here's what happens when you stray from the "path of righteousness", blah, blah, blah. The fact is that they're spoiled little rich boys who ARE going to get off with a slap on the wrist because of Daddy's money and (in one case) ties to the Republican party. 20 years from now, this will be written off as a "youthful indiscretion" when they run for Congress.

Instead of getting jail time, I'd send these little snerts into the Army, so they can go to Iraq and really see what life is like.

A Look Of Innocence Doesn't Guarantee It Mar 11th. at 1:22:08 pm EST

Ted Bundy was a handsome well mannered youth in a school year book too, listed under the ones most likely to-- as well. He had a very good education and material wealth as do many criminals. It just wasn't enough.
An angelic handsome face and a quiet demeanor can often be a cover for a multitude of sins, many of them quite heinous. Yet they get away with it because the mind is not on their sleeve for all the world to see and judge simply by looking at them. And Parents who claim to love their children and can give them everything materially, but do not question their behaviors are often the first to be shocked when the cop brings little Johnny home after catching him red handed while involved in some criminal plan.
How many times has anyone ever said, "He was always such a nice kid. He never did anything bad like this before. How could he be involved now?" And then they always look for external problems, the wild biker type, the druggie, that wild kid down the block - without realizing that maybe- just maybe, the solution is standing right in front of them. That maybe it isn't always an outside source that corrupted their "innocent" boy. That maybe, he was bad to begin with-- but up to that point, he always got away with it because nobody cared enough to check on what he might be doing, or they covered for his misdeeds before and he believed that the people around him were stupid enough that he would never get caught. And if he did, his folks would bail him out. if he voices contrition at that point- it is only because he got caught. Not because he was ever sorry for the deed to begin with.
Being Poor or being Rich isn't the single factor here. And both contribute to criminality equally, nor is religion or lack of it a factor either. There are Athiests and Pagans and xtians alike who are upstanding citizens
of their community. It is in parental guidance and care and interest in what the kids are doing. It is in teaching more than concepts of laws and religion, it is in teaching what really matters. The concept of respect for life and nature, and manners toward others and respect for their cultures. And the knowledge that while wealth can buy material gains-- it can only guarantee that you can be either happy or miserable in better surroundings. It cannot in itself make you happy. Only good relationships with other creatures and people can help with that. And good therapy if not.

"They were being molded by one of Alabama's most prestigious private schools — a Methodist-affiliated college where 70% of students take part in organized volunteer work."

The Type A Personality makes things happen;
The Type B Personality sees what's happening;
The Type C Personality wonders what happened.

Type A Personalities get remembered by breaking the mold. Jails have a disproportionate population.

Also, Preachers' Kids are the worst behaved.

That director, rather than recasting and reshooting, should bail the boys out, and finish the film, proceeds of which should buy the Brick that the Free-Masons will need to live up to their name.
