Franklin County Churches Robbed; Suspects Caught

Author: Jason Houston Source: Alabama Live (AL)

Title: FRANKLIN COUNTY CHURCHES ROBBED; SUSPECTS CAUGHT
Six Franklin County churches, three of them members of Franklin Baptist Association, were burglarized and vandalized in a five-day span in mid-July. Within a week of the crimes, three young men were arrested and charged with a multitude of theft, burglary and criminal mischief counts. All three Jeremy Ray Hargett, 19, and Kevin Pounders, 18, of Russellville and James Michael Dixon, 21, of Sheffield have confessed involvement in the crimes, officials said.
Almost all the items were recovered after officers executed a search warrant at two local residences. Officers also found documents related to Wicca, a pagan religion, and other occult-related documents.

Kindly note the original source for the article. a BAPTIST publication. IOW hardly an unbiased source.
While the actual burglary may be true, we don't have the police report to indicate if indeed " Wiccan" papers were found or what else was found. The fact that this publication mentions it al all is more of their own self-righteous justification , rather than honest reporting. Dimes to donuts this article will be in various Christiain anti-Pagan files ready to whip out.
This reminds me of some of the claims made about the phony " WICCA Letters" that supposedly was mysteriously found jammed inside a copier at a church. I would suggest that some of our Pagan liberty groups track this down and furnish in their own files the facts about this case. It may be minor now but over the years I've seen some of the fundy Xians grab at anything they can to discredit us.

point out that this article was written and published by the Alabama Baptist, a different publication unto itself, piggybacking on Alabama Live. Link to AB below
Should we have expected a different reaction from them? My first reaction after reading the article was along the lines, why did they need to mention that the "Wiccan" articles were found at the two residences.
Then I thought about it for a while. To the readers, namely the Baptist Faithful, they are trying to understand what happened, trying to gather another possible motive to why THEIR churches were descecrated and robbed. I view that as a plausable excuse.

Would this start up "The Franklin County Three?" It seems like it's focusing on the fact that articles on Wicca were found instead of the crime at hand.
Then again, that's the fundie Christians for you.

. . .how the blurb about documents concerning Wicca, and other occult literature came at the end of the piece. More an inference by the "journalist" than any in the story itself.
Ignorance isn't bliss, it's damnation.

over and over again.
I would love them to do a story on some Criminal someday and say:
"Officers also found documents related to Roman Catholicism, a Christian religion, and other biblically related documents. "
But no, not a word about that.
We need someone to go around to press conferences of these types and ask the investigating officer, when he is discribing the contents of an offenders dwelling, "Was there a bible on the premisis?"
But as soon as someone from our belief system goes wrong, makes a bad decision and gets arrested...goddess forbid that he have a Wiccan book. My goodness.
Peace. Linda
