Trio Accused Of Gunpoint Prayer Session

Author: AP Source: ABC News (US)

Title: TRIO ACCUSED OF GUNPOINT PRAYER SESSION
A woman and two roommates are accused of holding her brother at gunpoint as she prayed for his repentance, even firing a shot into the ceiling to keep his attention.
Randy Doss, 46, of Athens said he fled the house when his captors got distracted and later went to police, who were skeptical at first because his story was so bizarre. But police said it checked out, including the bullet hole in the ceiling.

Someone discharges a firearm and lands a shot a few feet from someones head while threatening them and they are released on bond? Why were they not escorted straight to the mental ward and given an exam?

I find it interesting when people spew bitter hatred and vitriol towards Christians and the like, then follow it up with "Blessings." There are hypocrites in all religions.

"We don't know if they were just playing games, but it is ridiculous for men and women in their 40s to be playing games like this," Harris said.

And to think this all happened in my hubby's hometown.
I agree w/ all who said that if the ones who had been holding a gun on the poor guy had been anything other than xian, this would have been a completely different story, and the cops wouldn't have just been saying it was a "bizarre" thing.
Now I gotta go and call my father-in-law about this one...

Many (if not most) of us who grew up in a fundalmentalist household can relate all too well to this story. I had an uncle who had gone through a period of drug abuse and Satanism before he became "born again", and magically, everything in his life became perfect. He then made it his mission in life to convert everyone with whom he had contact (even my mum who was Catholic, because according to born agains, Catholics aren't real Christians) . He came to my house and got rid of all my Disney, My Little Pony, and Care Bear stuff because, obviously, they espouse magic and are from the devil. As I grew older and had gotten into trouble at Catholic school for pointing out the obvoius parallels between the Greek myths and Jesus, he got rid of all my mythology books and made me (in addition to attending synagogue with my father on Friday, Catholic Church with mum on Saturday night, and religion classe every week day in school) attend his nutty "born again" church that was complete with people who had obvious mental problems rolling on the floor "speaking in tongues" (a ploy for attention if ever there were one) and a preacher who apparently thought that there was only one book in the Bible : Revelations, of course. Finally, after trying to be nice for a few months, I told him that I'd rather kill myself than go back to his nut house church. He then told my mother that I must be on drugs (I hadn't even drank a beer yet) and that obviously Satan had a hold on me. They then (and this is no joke) had his nut preacher come over to perform an exorcism on me, pouring holy water, chanting, the works. I sat there and just rolled my eyes. Finally, my father (who is Jewish) came home and stopped this garbage. He told my mum that he would divorce her if she ever left my uncle alone with me again. I owe my father a great debt. I'm just saying that when these people get that psycho into their religion where they honestly think that their love one is going to Hell, then these nuts will do anything to "save" them, even killing them if need be. I remeber a case were a man actually killed his entire family because he believed that the daughter was "studying witchcraft". These people are seriously dangerous.

"Harris said Randy Doss went to the house about 7 p.m. on Labor Day and at some point got in an argument with the two women about religion. When they prayed for him, he laughed. "
Their Religion is their chosen Medicine, and it isn't polite to laugh; an armed society is a polite society.
That a brother wronged a sister, as children, doesn't say much, whether Barbi Dolls, or Divorce, but to impose her religion on her persecutor, as a healling for her injuries, is a questionable approach.
Brother Dear might be in a bit of Denial, or Sister Dearest might be overblowing the matter, I'd recommend Gabriel's Crucible, for all such family disputes, as for the Brotherhood of Man.
Any word on whether Randy is Wiccan, Atheist, or RC?

What's going to have to happen until they do something about s*** like this. Somebody getting killed? It's a sad situation that it's been allowed to let go to this extent. As one poster said, of they had been anything OTHER than Xtian they would have been slapped with attempted murder charges. I sincerely hope justice is done in this case....

all the article states is that the woman felt her brother had "wronged" her years ago. Sure, that could mean he destroyed her Barbie collection. It could also mean that he abused and/or molested her in some way.
Whichever is the case, holding him at gunpoint was the wrong solution, but let's not jump to the conclusion that this guy is an entirely innocent victim.

"The door wasn't locked, he could have walked out at any time" isn't really a valid statement when people are holding guns pointed in your general vicinity.
I am beginning to think that perhaps the tag word 'fundamentalist' should be replaced with extremist; it seems to fit better, and it certainly describes the behavior better.

There are a great many bizarre things done in the name of xtianity, just as there is for that "other" religion down the road, so this is really not that unusual. Ridiculous- but not unusual. Zealots are already blowing themselves up in the hopes of killing as many as they can when they explode- and Jim Jones was not unusual when he forced the unwilling in his group to drink the poisoned Kool-Aid. It's amazing to what end they will go to keep you out of a mythical hell, by making you go through one they create for you.

...the first documented instance of Christian ritual abuse??
...a joke?? If they were anything but Christian, they'd be charged with attempted murder.
...a cosmic plan to make me barf?? If they were anything but Christian, very few law enforcement persons would consider the story "bizarre."
I don't find it hard to believe at all. I've seen comparable behavior out of Bible-Believein'-Christians (TM) since I was a small child.
Maybe it'll get the rest of 'em to think. Everyone who believes that, stand on your head. Still, I can hope.
Insanity recognizes no labels.

Alpha Kilo (St Petersburg, Florida) - Email Me

but I'm not all that surprised. My own Mom and her xtian buddies did all kinds of 'unusual' things to me in an attempt to forcibly convert me to xtianity. One of them was to have me arrested on a false charge, and then once I was trapped in a cell, they sent a xtian shrink to talk to me. Because I refused to speak to him, he signed papers to get me into a state hospital because according to him, I was suicidal. So, until I could get my own lawyer and doctor, I spent one night in a locked ward in a nut house. I never have been totally able to forgive my Mom, and didn't speak to her for quite a fews years. The fact that I am a pilot, it compicated things in my career, and it took months to PROVE to the FAA that I was not indeed suicidal. Thank You, Mom. Eventually, all the charges were dropped and the FAA closed the case with my medical certificate intact, but it took a while and I lost some money on legal expenses. All that in the ***ING name of xtianity. That was a long time ago, (way back in the '70's) , but everytime I hear a story of people being bullied by family members who are xtian, it does bring back my own traumatic experiences. The reality is that the people who are trying to force this repentance thing on you are doing it because they really believe that they are doing what is best for you, in their own deluded way. They think they are saving you from eternal hell, so they feel they are doing you a favor. Unfortunately, many of them are the ones who need to be locked up, but they have a lot of power in numbers. Didn't mean to get carried away, but I beieve the man in this story wholeheartedly.
