Ego-Googling Is An Educational Experience

Author: Leada Gore   Source: Clanton Advertiser (AL)

Title: EGO-GOOGLING IS AN EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE

About a year ago, I was deluged with emails about Big Foot. I had written a column about the mythical monster and, apparently, it had been circulated on the Internet. My name was all over the Internet on all sorts of weird Big Foot sites.

I mentioned this to a friend of mine who advised I Google my name and see what came up.

And with that I became an ego-Googler.

An ego-Googler is one who Googles their own name to see where it's posted, too.

Perhaps the scariest thing I found was my name and a story I wrote listed on a Web site for witches. We had a local coffee shop that was bedeviled, so to speak, with rumors of witchcraft meetings. The owner said it was hurting his business and wanted to get the story out that this was not the case. I wrote the story and ended up on all sort of weird Web sites.

So much for trying to help.

Who Do You Really Fear? Sep 28th. at 11:36:19 am EDT

Not us.

I think who this author and her coffeeshop owner friend really fear, and with good reason, are their fundementalist Christian "friends".

Hence their effort to distance themselves from any hint of association with those who are different.

In the early 1900s, we'd've seen
"Catholics" where today she wrote "witches."

It is sad that you find us scary as we are far from it. We are those who protect you and your way of life. Good Pagan Soldiers have died in your President's war against terrorism.

Good Pagan people donated thousands upon thousands of dollars to the Katrina project. There isn’t one Pagan person I know that wouldn’t give you the shirt off his/her back if you needed it.

It is so sad that you have closed off your mind and heart to those who are so loving and kind. We may have a different system of beliefs but so do Jewish people, Muslim, Atheists...but one thing we have in common. We are all in this life together. Why do you have to disparage our existence?

It is truly unfortunate that your local coffee shop owner found the rumours of local witches using his establishment so repugnant. After your story those Witches will certainly find somewhere else to spend their hard earned dollars and some other establishment will benefit.

What would this world be, if not for us who decide to think and live "outside the box"? Perish the thought if we were all the same, all dull and humdrum. Life would cease to be life, but a simple existence. We are fresh, we are excited about living, and most pagans I know are passionate about EVERYTHING. They are passionate about their relationships, friendships, families, jobs, pets, causes. They do everything in an outstandingly animated way that energises others around them and motivates people to do their best.

Fear us not Madam, for we wish you no ill will. In fact we welcome you! Come to us and learn from us. You might not believe what we believe, but there is still so much we can learn from each other instead of making disparaging remarks about each other.

Peace
Linda

Leada's name only appears in the By-Line. I have a stand up comic, named after me; [Web LINK] .

"Another column about a much-married man can be found on a bigamy website. Thankfully, it's an anti-bigamy website, but it's still a little disturbing to find your name and the word "bigamy" listed anywhere near each other."

"Darling, what would you say, if I married another woman, and we all moved in togeather?"
"That would be Bigamy!"
"It would be big of all three of us."

If she were really worried about the propriety of Weird Company, she could write about the lack of reports of Angelic Manifestations, and have her name associated with that. Meanwhile, that coffee house needs an Open Witch Night, so the rumors won't go anywhere.

Wyrd Will Be Done...

for existing!

I'm curious how the concepts of getting along together and free association and freedom of religion are helped, since she was "trying to help", by treating certain CITIZENS as if they are lepers and their presence is unwelcome.

I hope if any Pagans or witches were giving that fellow their business, that they take it elsewhere from now on.
Why give our hard-earned and equally green money to bigots?
