Still Living With The Shadows

Author: Kate Farley Source: Baldwin County Now (AL)

Title: STILL LIVING WITH THE SHADOWS
At the age of 15, Nikki Russo checked into a California hospital for treatment of an eating disorder. It was in this hospital that she was eventually abducted by a nurse, initiated into a coven of witches and thrown into a dark world filled with drugs, alcohol, abuse and intimidation.
Today, Russo’s story and struggle to recovery is chronicled in the new book The Pomegranate Seed — Nikki Russo’s Sojourn Through Institutional Failure and the World of the Occult.
The book, published by iUniverse, is written by veteran Gulf Coast Newspaper staff writer Bob Morgan, who first interviewed Russo in October 2007 and wrote an article regarding her story.
Why come forward with such a painful book now?

the typical fundy B.S. about Witches and the things they do. I think this woman is either certifiably psychotic, or a brazen publicity-seeker. The description of her allegations in the article are straight out of a Jack Chick tract, and we all know what a contemptible liar he is! As another contributor has stated, Kerr Cuhlain allegedly did a background check on this woman and found her story to be false, just as they all are. As I've mentioned many times, the FBI's "Lanning Report" shows that there is no evidence of these incidences ever occurring, from a law enforcement perspective. It is a very popular deception device among fundys to claim that they were either a Wiccan HP or Satanist High Priest (like Mike Warnke) , et al. to attract extra interest to their religious "testimony". This particular book sounds suspiciously like another "Michelle Remembers" - a book by an alleged victim of occult abduction complete with the allegations of drugs, sex and other abuses. The alleged victim was investigated by the FBI's Special Agent Lanning, and was found to be completely untruthful - they found pay stubs, rent receipts, credit card bills, etc., as well as interviews with those who know her- all proved that "Michelle" was living a perfectly normal life and was never a prisoner of anyone. Her shrink, who was the actual author of the book, was eventually prosecuted for fraud. I think the FBI should investigate the author of "The Pomegranate Seed" as well!
"Only lies need to be propped up with more lies; truth stands on its own." -Thomas Jefferson
Modern translation: If you have to back up your religious belief system with brazenly outrageous nonsense stories like these, just how "true" can your religion actually be? Tactics such as these are born of desperation, as people are now leaving fundyism in record numbers. The fundys are scared, because the fewer the fundys, the fewer sheeple to pay pastors' salaries and buy these lying 'Satanic Panic' books.

The title of the book in relation to the alleged victim's ordeal is the first tip-off that a grain (or two) of salt is in order if reading this book. In synopsis, in Greek mythology, Persephone was abducted into the UnderWorld by her uncle,Hades, who was infatuated with her. While in the UnderWorld, Persephone grew to love Hades and her role as Queen of the UnderWorld. Persephone's mother, Demeter, had the god Hermes go to the UnderWorld to bring Persephone back. Knowing that anyone who ate in the UnderWorld was NOT allowed to return to Earth, Persephone accepted a pomegranate offered to her by Hades and willingly ate 7 of the seeds...her choice prevented her from ever being permanently returned to Earth, but allowed her to live partially here and partially there.
I see some parallels in both Ms. Russo's alleged ordeal and the authors choice of title for the book. However, being an empath/healer, and a witch to boot, my radar was immediately tripped when reading this article. I'd dare say Ms.Russo is in conflict; there's a part of her that finds her experience untenable, and a part of her that found it strangely liberating. Given that the prototype of an eating disorder is one of a need for control, it's ironic that Ms. Russo would find herself in a very controlled, yet personally liberal situation with the opportunity to define and ultimately gain control over her Self.
Was the poison also the antidote? The Universe does have a way of giving it's children what they need.
Perception colors perspective. While I am not overjoyed at the disparaging picture this book will paint of witches and the Art in general, possibly readers will balance it out by remembering the worldview of the average 15 year old.

I thought he did a background check on this woman and she made it all up. I think she's schitzo and her parents are actually still alive, not dead. If I remember correctly, she was totally debunked.

You know, court documents can display false information as well. Can the class say "West Memphis Three?" This IS stereotypical "satanic panic" faire.

From other sources... "neither the initial 2007 report by Morgan, or the 2009 piece on his subsequent book, goes into any detail as to what exactly this “Brotherhood” was practicing, and how they are linked with California’s occult community. This lack of detail is all explained as a way to honor the victim, but it also denies us any clear notion as to what this group was. I have no doubt that Russo was abused if she says she was, I’m just skeptical concerning how “witchy” these “witches” were."
If I remember correctly Manson told his followers to "write something witchy" after the Tate/Bianca murders as well. Doesn't mean they WERE witches... Doesn't mean they are associated with what most here refer to as witches or witchcraft (although there are one or two who will claim differently) .
