Fatal Ending To Ariz. Exorcism Response

Title: FATAL ENDING TO ARIZ. EXORCISM RESPONSE
Officers responding to a report of an exorcism on a young girl found her grandfather choking her and used stun guns to subdue the man, who later died, authorities said Sunday.
The 3-year-old girl and her mother, who was also in the room during the struggle between 49-year-old Ronald Marquez and officers, were hospitalized, police said. Their condition was unavailable.
The relative who called police said an exorcism had also been attempted Thursday.
"The purpose was to release demons from this very young child," said Sgt. Joel Tranter.

Though I rarely stand up for the fundamentalist crowd, I have to say that this guy is off the edge of the map. This is not your average fundamentalist action. I think, perhaps, this guy was either mentally ill or maybe a drug user, rather then religiously motivated. Either way, he was definitely not right in the head. I hope the family, particullarly the child, find healing in the wake of all of this.

This is disgusting......I feel dirty having just read it. I wish I could debunk xianity so thouroughly, that within 10 years, all that remains is a dark, fading stain on the history of humanity. Our greatest shame, a mistake we try to amend for a long time, until we can look back on it, and say, huh, i dunno what can be said.
The only true reason I am ashamed to be human sometimes is because of xianity. It is a great pride of mine to reject and debunk it. If humanity is to live and grow, we must cast off this shackle of INSANITY once and for all.

Demons? In a three-year old child???? GET REAL! I have to agree with what a couple others have said.... I wonder if grandpa thought the child was considered "possesed" because she WAS HIS CHILD!! Things that make ya go "hmmm", eh? It's SAD that the fundies have sunk to this low a low.... and they talk about us? It makes me wonder what the world has come to....

I live here in the Valley and this has been a big story here and nationally. My husband is Catholic and can tell you that this was not an exorcism. Catholics go to a priest for a request for an exorcism who checks the scene out, prays wiith the family and if any supernatural things that can not be explained are present then a lengthy investigation is launched. After the findings of the investigation are pulled together an exocsist from the vatican MAY be dispatched. So as you can see, this is distinctly something else. . .
From a witches' point of view, things out here in the valley have been off the last week or so. It started to feel odd out here after the fissure in Queen Creek opened up and swallowed that horse.

Shameful....
Considering the 19 year old mom was naked in the room of the exorcism...perhaps grandpa had sexually abused the mom...which could mean that the child is not only his grandchild, but his child as well...I do hope that law enforcement checks out that possibility, even though grandpa's dead, since both the girl and her mom will need medical care and in the case of the mother, deprogramming...
As far as the family being demon free...Oh no, not by a long shot. For the family to have a do it yourself exorcism... (no mention of priests being present) on a 3 year old...I doubt they would be Catholic, because I can't think of one single reason why a Catholic would do such a thing without the approval of clergy...and training. Pentecostals and Charismatics might do their own exorcisms, but they usually have a pastor present... (they would say that as long as you did it in Jesus name anyone could do an exorcism as long as they were strong in the Lord) ...
Which leaves the plain old fanatics, and to some a child whose birth was caused by a sin would be more likely to be possessed...since sin is of the devil and of the flesh...The act of incest followed by conception could have caused this family to see this child as literally the devil in the flesh...which means that if you give any member of this child's family...immediate or extended, you may well be putting this child's life in mortal danger...Even in a controlled facility it could be dangerous...For them to attack and the mother to allow it states the obvious...for some reason they see this child as a vessel of evil...

This of course begs several questions,
What piece was the officer interested in?
What " aggrevated " the assault?
And
What exactly did the naked woman assault the officer with?
Inquiring minds want to know.

This sounds like the kind of tactics used during the Buring Times and the Spanish Inquisition. Making the human host body as uncomfortable as possible in an effort to drive out the devil. Some of the techniques were as simple as starving the "innocent" to as complicated as sandwiching them in between two boards (like doors) and then piling rocks on until the devil was "squished" out or the person died (same difference) .
Humans have such a long way to go before they are going to be called enlightened beings. Sigh...

They are not supposed to involve beating and strangling young children. Usually praying a lot, casting incense and holy water around - not mentioning strangling anywhere.
Methinks the demons were in grandpa, not the child. The family is now demon-free.

....Who says his grandchild is possessed. Well, OK, was she doing the whole Linda Blair thing or was it a so called divine revelation thing? I doubt seriously, neither the former or the latter. What's possessed are the wackos' minds. Demons? Oh, get real! In a three year old child? This is a very sick bunch of sickos! I know of no faith that states that a child this young can be possessed. None. Whatever, the only negative thing I'll say is that it appears Karma is a definite bi%^$! Karma obviously got this one. The rest of my comments will be very negative, I'll shut up......
Suffer the poor children to the idiotic ideas of the religiously deranged, honestly, what is really wrong with these people?

If it were happening to you, wouldn't you be? The poor wee thing was more than likely terrified out of her wits. Granddad choking her and all, mom standing there doing nothing about it, demons my wazoo.
The demons were in the heads of the adults. I know different traditions have different beliefs. But violence against children isn't any form of exorcism, it's downright criminal abuse. And even if there were a demon situation going on, there are BETTER AND MORE EFFECTIVE WAYS TO DEAL WITH IT. Ignorance is curable, stupidity is terminal.
