Mountain Temple Center Offers Something For Everyone

Author: Lawn Griffiths Source: East Valley Tribune (AZ)

Title: MOUNTAIN TEMPLE CENTER OFFERS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
Greased steel swords burst into flame, then were thrust skyward by Malkuth and Yesod and eight others as they took turns proclaiming their virtues and place in the Tree of Life.
Wearing 10 colors of robes, they represented 10 energies that, it said, formed the ancient tree of 22 branches mentioned in the Bible and in the writings of the mystics.
“For it is the blueprint of the universe, and only the divine knows of it completely,” shouted Kether, the ceremonial leader.
On the ritual grounds of the Mountain Temple Center, on a craggy butte in Phoenix’s Sunnyslope, the autumn equinox was just hours away, and 15 people turned out in the darkness on Sept. 22 for the Tree of Life Equinox Ritual, one of eight public ceremonies held there each year, under the direction of founder Michael Crowley, 58, whose many titles include Third Degree Lord High Priest and Magus of Garnerian Wicca.

| Michael Crowley Is Not A Gardnerian | Sep 30th. at 8:23:36 pm EDT

Lord Joshu (Phoenix, Arizona) - Email Me

In the late 80's when Michael Crowley first popped up claiming to be a Gardnerian, I asked him some questions that should be asked of anyone claiming to be British Traditional Craft: Who initiated you? Where and when did you receive your initiation? He told me that he had been initiated by Anne C. in February of '84 to "third degree Gardnerian", and that he had met her at an AA meeting.
It just so happened that I knew Anne C. She had been a former member of the coven I am in, the Coven of Danu, and had left in October of '83. She had been with us for somewhere between 6 and 8 months. She had never received first degree initiation, much less third degree initiation, so she was not entitled to initiate anyone. Also, the Coven of Danu follows the Mohsian Tradition, not the Gardnerian Tradition.
So, to sum this up, Michael Crowley is not a Gardnerian, and anyone who goes through his group thinking they are receiving training and initiation in the Gardnerian Tradition is sadly mistaken. For contacts and referrals to recognized and legitimate British Traditional Wiccan groups I would recommend going through the New Wiccan Church, a clearinghouse of sorts for BTW in North America. They can be reached at www.newwiccanchurch.org.
