Real Arizona Witches: Who They Are And What They Believe

Author: Christina Boomer   Source: abc15.com

Title: REAL ARIZONA WITCHES: WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEY BELIEVE

Are there real witches in Arizona?

As a new fall show launches on ABC15-TV about witchcraft -- called Eastwick -- we decided to do a little research.

What we learned might be new to you.

Witches can actually be male or female, according to Rosemary Szymanski. She's a high priestess for the Sacred Spiral Pagan Church of Arizona.

They don’t worship Satan; in fact they don’t even believe he exists, said Szymanski.

Believe In Satan? Sep 24th. at 12:01:42 pm EDT

Ahr-Ohn (Bridgeport, Connecticut) - Email Me

Satan's been found, the word simply means Obstacle or Obstruction, so we can understand if a few cultures would believe America to the the Great Obstruction, or that the culture of the UN might agree with Gadafi, and believe that the entire Security Council is the Great Obstruction.

A Servant of Satan would then be, someone whose purpose and devotion is wrapped around any obstruction, real or imagined, such as the belief that anything unchristian can prevent the "Universal Church of God and Self," that Jesus prayed for. Christian "Churches" aren't really any great obstruction, but the markets they target, they often affirm as obstructive, and that'll take a little sorting out.

Actually, EstWitch is a bit more accurate than Charmed, although they still don't share Solomon's understanding of the Power of Three. Maybe they're using the Three Treasures model, or something.

They've an Earth Mother, a Man Handler, and a devine Prophet, yeah, Three Treasures, Chinese Trigram. I don't see any reason, that Darryl should have zapped the Earth Crone, in the first episode, though, but for a bit of scripted adventure.

A Good Light. Sep 24th. at 10:19:54 am EDT

At least the article does try to put things into a good light with some information. Thank you to the author for that.

As far as with rituals =/= prayer, the methodology is usually different, but the end result (bringing nature into conformity with Will) does share a commonality, and that is undeniable. Whether folks do it through petitioning YHWH, the Lord and Lady, or simple force of Will (self-affirmation) seems irrelevant. It's whatever gets the best results. I think that is what Ms. Szymanski was driving at in order help folks understand.

Like it or not, a majority of folks who would would do or wish our family (Neo-Paganism I use as an umbrella term) ill will are ignorant. Almost all Christians I know of and am friends with don't honestly care about my faith. The few that do usually back down mainly because of either self-confidence or because of numbers.

In any case, knowledge is power. A few bad apples are always present, but to me, that doesn't spoil the bunch.

I agree with Moondancer. People sprout off that all these different deities don't exist, but then go and say theirs does.

I believe in Jehovah, i don't like him and we don't get along, but i believe he exists.

And as for the Arizona Witches, at least they're trying to get people to understand we're not evil just because we practice a different faith.

For Shame! Sep 24th. at 12:06:13 am EDT

I had this lengthy, very interesting comment (I thought) , now lost in space. Oh well. So I'll make this brief:

Agreed, 300%: invocations/prayer are not at all like magically charged spells. You had better believe that before the blowback comes around!

Secondly, I don't believe in Satan, especially not hell. And yet, I have always liked the concept very much indeed! Ever since I was a kid. Sorry, got to keep it real. But I fully understand why our public reps keep this all clean and aboveboard. No need for perfectly nice pagans and witches to be hurt by my fetishes.

Draken (Bronx, New York) - Email Me - Web

FTA: “Magic and spells are prayers, when you go to the Catholic Church you light a candle and say a prayer, all it is is asking the universe, in that case God, to bring something into your life that you want, that’s all a spell is. I burn some incense I light a candle I focus on what I want to bring into my life or what I want to get rid of, whether it is bringing in a good habit or getting rid of a bad one. Making myself less afraid and being able to stand up for myself if I need to, things like that. Everything I do is on myself and don’t do any kind of magic on anyone else because I am the only person that I can affect change on.“

How many times must I go over this?

spells =/= prayer

What they were describing was invocation, which IS like a prayer insofar that you are actually petitioning a deity to work through you. A spell is using your own power for your own ends. Two different types of magick.

And this article is the quintessential example of why I refuse to capitalize "xian" and "cathaholic." They didn't capitalize "Wiccan," "Goddess," or "Pagan." Do editors even proofread?

The biggest thing this article DID get right is the fact that Pagans of various flavors don't believe in the xian deities "jehova," "jebus," or "da debbil." After all, if you leave open the possibility they exist, then you have to leave open the possibility that every scientific inaccuracy present in the buy-bull is true (such as the "Flat-Earth Theory," bats are birds, donkeys talk, and a rib woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat an apple) . Allow one, allow them all. And no, this is not "xian-bashing." This is simply pointing out the facts yet again. The xians bash themselves enough without our help.

tell other people their gods don't exist.
I may not worship them, but I'm really tired of paganish people who have to spout "we don't believe in the devil" (or Jesus, or Ganesha or anyone else.)
