Prayer Showdown

Author: Maggie Creamer   Source: Lodi News-Sentinel (CA)

Title: PRAYER SHOWDOWN

In an all-black outfit, Gordon James Klingenschmitt stood with his Bible in hand and quoted from both religious texts and the U.S. Constitution to prove that Jesus should be allowed in prayer at the Lodi City Council meetings.

The founder of the Colorado Springs, Co.-based The Pray In Jesus Name Project was standing in front of Carnegie Forum at a news conference he set up Monday.

Publicity is one of his organization's best tools to get the word out about their cause, and a prayer rally is planned for 6 p.m.

"Jesus is not an illegal word. ... Now, an atheist's group is using the government's sword to tell me I can't pray in Jesus' name," Klingenschmitt said.

A former Navy chaplain, Klingenschmitt has been in the media in recent years for arguing with communities and the military about the use of Jesus in prayer.

Just Another Fundy Nutjob... Aug 5th. at 7:00:57 pm EDT

Corax (Glendale, Arizona) - Email Me

Considering xianity's historical (read criminal) record, it never fails to infuriate me how fundys just can't seem to help insisting that *they* are the ones being persecuted, instead the hundreds of thousands of victims of xianity's organized orgies of rape, torture and murder, that make incarceration in the Soviet gulags look like a trip to Disneyland.
Apparently, it's perfectly OK for them to shove their bloodthirsty deity down everyone's throat anytime they feel like it, but let someone raise an objection to praying to jeebus based on legitimate First Amendment considerations and right away they brand and excoriate that person as an enemy of xianity.
I'm SO sick and tired of these intellectually dishonest fundy attempts to silence reasonable people and their views. I believe that the fundys do this because it is the only tactic they have that has a snowball's chance of working. They know full well that if they attempted to bring their belief system (including their attempts to mix church and state) to the discussion table and argue the fundy viewpoint on its merits alone, they would lose ROYALLY!
I despise intellectual dishonesty and that is why I despise fundamentalism!

That on the Government's dime, it should be government business, period. There are more than enough places to pray in already.

This is what we should do if this nutjob wins:

1) Apply for a clergy license.
2) Ask to give the opening prayer in a government's chair.
3) Get denied (you know it will happen, especially in the buy-bull belt) .
4) Sue under the First Amendment.
5) Win.
6) ????
7) PROFIT

They're saying "Jesus" is not an illegal word-I say neither is Zeus, Hekate, Athena. The 12th House's follwers are really stepping this up, will pagans defend & defuse the madness?
