Witchcraft Family History Spawns New Take On Halloween

Title: WITCHCRAFT FAMILY HISTORY SPAWNS NEW TAKE ON HALLOWEEN
This time of year, I find myself getting excited. Something about the sudden chill in the air (or this year, the sudden deluge in the air!) gets me nostalgic for apple cider, pumpkin lattes, and Halloween costumes.
I always enjoyed the dark trappings of the holiday. In my travels across town I've seen marvelous yard art: the circle of creepy ghost children dancing on the lawn on Church Street near Sixth, the witchy display on Miller at Yorktown, and the inflatables on Sixth near Miller, to name just a few. I also liked the window display at the Costume Trunk store on Monterey.
But something happened a few years ago to dampen my embrace of all-things-Halloween. I learned that in 1656, my 11-greats grandmother Mary Bliss Parsons was accused of witchcraft.
