Wicca-Wicca Witchcraft

Author: Traci Garling Lee   Source: New University (Univ. of California, Irvine)

Title: WICCA-WICCA WITCHCRAFT

On Halloween, kids get the opportunity to dress up and assume another identity. For me, it wasn’t enough to just dress up as a witch; I wanted to be one.

When I was little, my sister and I would pretend we had magical powers like Sabrina, the teenage witch. We wrote a book of rhyming magical spells and rode around on our mom’s vacuum cleaner, like Sabrina did on TV. We dreamed of having magical powers and of discovering an Other Realm through the linen closet.

I’d always been interested in different religions and worldviews, but Paganism was something I didn’t know much about. It became an opportunity to dive into something new and interesting, even if it drew me strange looks from my conservative friends at my Catholic school.

Bone-Fire? Oct 26th. at 10:32:36 am EDT

Ahr-Ohn (Bridgeport, Connecticut) - Email Me

'Tis the season for the Bone-Bon-Bons.

I wonder, Jewish Trad has as many rules as there are days in the year, and I forget if it's the prescriptions or the prohibitions that number as our bones. Could there be a relationship, between Bone and Bon?

"To many, the word “Wicca” conjures images of Satan worshiping and other demonic rituals but, in reality, Wicca is not about devil worship. While Wiccans recognize other gods and goddesses, at the core of the religion is the worship of both a God and Goddess — or, in some traditions of Wicca, only the Goddess."

Given, that any religion descends from a being that was probably not into self worship, I don't think worship of Her, Him, or It is the foundation of any religion. It's not about Worship, but some have taught Brotherhood with Primal Creator, or other Overstanding. Primal Creator only seems to've been born a Daughter of Eve, in 1987, possibly as a sign of the Great Month of Aquarius, so She'd be about 22 now.

"Bonfires, which we college students have come to grow fond of, also originated with Samhain. "

Admittedly, the work of a college student.

"Wiccans believe that on the eve of Samhain, the veil between the living and the spiritual realm is thin, making it easier to communicate with the departed. To honor the dead, it is common for Wiccans to leave food on their doorsteps or on altars in their homes for the “wandering dead,” as well as leaving lit candles by windowsills to help guide the spirits of the dead home. During dinner, extra seats are left empty for “unseen guests” and some even bury apples along roads for departed souls who are lost or have no home to return to."

Y'know, if you don't want to be confused by Death, it's only sensible that you offer the and hand to the confusedly dead. Ancient Sumerians used to provide a cup of water for that dark and dusty road. How much more Christian can you get?

Pantheresque Panache Oct 26th. at 10:07:49 am EDT

Adopt the cat that's right for you, and don't be so specieist that you think it's a one way relationship. Human affinity for the feline has had significant evolutionary impact on wildlife, urban and rural.

I can imagine, as Halloween comes closer, that black cats might be bought as gifts, more often, and be rejected more often.

Assuming, for a moment, that our Pantheresque do the work of some devil, or other, would you be so unchristian, as to pass judgement on a Devil?

Hmmm, there's been much condemnation, in Mohammedan Circles, of the Servants of Satan; I wonder if a Friends of Servants Ministry might float.

The ONLY flaw in this otherwise-excellent article: "...Gerald Gardner, a retired English civil servant, who claimed to have been initiated into a coven..." Dorothy Clutterbuck, the HPs who initiated Gardner, actually did exist. I remember reading Doreen Valiente's article chronicling her investigation.
