When God Stands In The Way Of Dissent

Author: Rich Mayfield Source: Summit Daily News (CO)

Title: WHEN GOD STANDS IN THE WAY OF DISSENT
The Christian season of Lent began this past week with Wednesday’s somber and sobering imposition of ashes on the foreheads of the faithful. The service is intended to be a time of humility and self-reflection, wherein the supplicants spend time quietly resolving to be both better human beings and make for a better world.
This is why it is so curious that the Catholic-in Chief, Pope Benedict XVI, chose this day to release another of his faith-numbing edicts, this one concerning a prayer recited on Good Friday that seeks the conversion of Jews to Catholicism:
“Let us now pray for the Jews. May the Lord our God enlighten their hearts so they may acknowledge Jesus Christ, the savior of all men.”
Surprisingly, this is supposedly an improvement over a previous prayer employed in the Latin mass which, not incidentally for us Protestants, also begs the Almighty for our own theologically heretical souls along with the Orthodox and any other practicing pagans who somehow missed being burned at the stake.

from this pope, it appears more and more that he firmly believes that he should be able to enforce that papal bull from early in the last millennium which stated that the papacy was -- is -- and-forevermore-shall-be the rightful ruler over all the kingdoms and countries of the earth.
Sorry I don't recall which pope and what date it was issued.
If this kind of power grab is truly his intent for the RC church, then I for one intend to be among the resisters.

how Pope Roman Numerals (Bendedict Something, I loose track) would feel if the tables were turned and a Pagan or Jew prayed for HIS conversion? This does nothing to help relieve his image of a German wannabe gestapo sympathizer. (Sorry, Germany, this guy's German and has a history there. It's nothing personal.)

something's off about the whole fishy thing. Astrotheology really helps to give an overview of what has driven & established 'new religions' throughout the Ages. I'll just reiterate that Jan 1st. is the New Year now, not March/Spring Equinox-the question merely remains: will humanity let the 12th House end life on Earth? It has a bad habit of self-destructing.

"Wars are fought, lives are ruined, cultures are destroyed, races are completely or nearly annihilated and intellectual integrity is denied when religious certainty disallows honest doubt and open inquiry. Beware the True Believer."
That is, I think, a sentiment we'd all do well to remember...
...especially when we're thinking about Someone Else's Religion.
Your Way is yours, and it is right... for you. My Way is mine, and it is right... for me. Their Way is theirs, and it is right... for them.
There are some limitations upon that, of course...
...but those limitations should be obvious. Don't sacrifice children. No ritual mutilation. No horriffic beatings in the name of [God]. No slavery in the name of [God].
Being different, being distasteful, being annoying...
...does not make a given belief system, or the people who practice it, any more (or less) wrong than everybody else.
There are plenty of people in EVERY religion who could really use to take that Lesson to heart.

after I took the time to read it, I understood what he was talking about.... at least this Gentleman has taken the first step to growing up and enlightenment. I don't know if he remained a pastor, but at least he has come to the same realization I have - that if a religion DEMANDS blind obediance, it's no good. And he has seen that xtianity has been used as an excuse for many, many atrocities in the past. The Burning Times, discrimination against Women and The jewish. When will it end? I can only hope that MORE people see this....
Love to all

"If You Believe That Your Faith Is The One, True. . word of god then, how can you not believe that everyone else is wrong and should be a part of your religion? "
That question should not even need to be asked, especially here.
I believe that my beliefs and practices are with out doubt the one, true and only right way. FOR ME. NO other person has been where I have been, done what Ive done, seen what Ive seen, or walked in my shoes. They do not stand on the same place on the same place on the circle as i do.
We can walk together but our paths will always be seperate. The wonderful Lady I have spent the last 27+ years with does not walk the same path as I. We share many common beliefs but not all.

I am going to save the rest for tomorrow evening, but let me get this off my chest now, some people need to do a bit more rationalizing before they come on here and regurgitate the apologetics of the Christian faith.
There is no evidence besides the plagiarized book known as the bible to give any proof or truth that Jesus, Moses, or any of the apostles ever existed, and I think we as Pagans need to come to terms with that thus allowing us to filter out some of the propaganda in the mainstream and on our own forums. The Jesus, Moses, and Noah stories are replete through Pagan mythology (Mithras, Anubis, Osiris, and Odin) yet we are supposed to believe theirs are true.
More to follow.
Organized religion is just another system of control that needs to be rationaly dealt with before they are used upon us again in the old ways with a new twist.

word of god then, how can you not believe that everyone else is wrong and should be a part of your religion? I think that those who believe that they have the one, true story are a bit off in the head but the pope's behavior is consistent with the belief. It is more rational, given the stories of all faiths, to believe that they are just stories and not the "True Word of God" but that is why I am not a fundamental anything - and follow the pagan path - and the red road.
The guy writing the article misses quite a few points with me, especially his bashing of the mormons for having removed american blacks from the priesthood "because we can't afford to be attacked for our religion and as abolitionists at the same time" - nobody seems to have noticed that, while american blacks were excluded (the black priests at the time of suspension of their callings stayed in the church) throughout the world, in african countries, the priesthood was composed of blacks, in the far east, of orientals - only here was it dangerous to have minority races in the priesthood - I wonder why?

Beware the true believer, certainly says quite a bit. To this I add, beware those who claim to speak for a deity as so many self proclaimed prophets do these days. It is unknown if the words are those of his deity-or his own edicts, disguised as the purported word of his deity. And I am very glad to have missed burning at the stake. That would have hurt!

The author of this article appears to be a wise old pastor, with an index of other articles worth perusing.
Pope Been-a-Dick (still am) OTOH, we might wonder about. His predecessor, to whom ethical intent to help the Vatican progress into modern reality is far more widely attributed, pulled similar moves to the disgrace of his diminishing church. John Paul's actions were seen as revolutionary within the inner circle of Cardinals, even when obnoxious by many pagans and others excluded from his purported messages of inclusion.
Apparently some subversive monks pulled a dirty trick. They substituted Super-Glue (tm) deluxe gel for anal lube in Vatican bathrooms. How else could such allegedly wise Cardinals be so stuck in their ways, as to be unable to deal with reality of the current world in which they'd apparently prefer to not exist? Work hard enough towards that end, and maybe the Vatican will accomplish it, as they downsize rapidly.
