Some Turn To Ancient Practice In Uncertain Times

Author: Sharon Sullivan   Source: Grand Junction Free Press (CO)

Title: SOME TURN TO ANCIENT PRACTICE IN UNCERTAIN TIMES

Writing poetry, creating art or reading tarot cards — it all springs from the same source, said Wendy Videlock.

Videlock said she’s starting to see more people seeking guidance — in the form of tarot readings, which she conducts in the privacy of her comfortable, red-brick home in a mature, middle-class neighborhood near St. Mary’s Hospital.

Tarot is an ancient text designed to explain the forces of nature, said Videlock, who’s also a widely-published poet, former schoolteacher, wife and mother of two teenage children.

Tarot; Ancient? Apr 23rd. at 3:43:46 pm EDT

The Tarot has much to tell, but that telling is built on much older traditions. What Ancient Ways are people following, in the Tarot? I suppose, that they're speaking to a consultant is ancient enough.

If anyone's looking for the really ancient ways, I could show a couple techniques the Holy Grail derived from. Speaking of which, call, if you'd like to join a Potlatch the day after Beltaine; I'm trying to organize my comeback, which a popularizing of Celebrity.

Yes, if you're in a consulting buisiness, now is the time to make money on the poor and nervous; do a lot of credit buisiness, so they can pay back when they've real money.

This article was kind of all over the place. The Tarot an ancient text. That one is news to me. I thought it was originally made to be a card game in Italy which spread to France and Spain with all of the esoteric symbolism being put in later decks made by occultists but what do I know, most of my decks are modern. In fact I think it might be fair enough to say most of the astrological influences came with the 'big three' decks of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries (Rider Waite Smith, Golden Dawn and Crowley Thoth) and have been built upon since.

As for the Tarot not telling you what you are not ready to hear, that depends on the reader, how they interpret the images before them and how they communicate that to a client. Therefore SOME readings may only tell you what you are ready (or willing) to hear where some can leave you feeling emotionally bruised. Likewise there will always be some who will practice cold reading, those who are simply there to sooth a few egos or simply just cash in on the climate of uncertainty, whether they can read the Tarot or not.

Last time I checked, the tarot is a divinatory vehicle consisting of 78 cards.

..."The Tarot does not tell you what you aren't ready to hear."

The Tarot can be brutally effin honest whether you want to hear it or not.

"Tarot is an ancient text designed to explain the forces of nature."

I disagree. But then, I wasn't impressed with the article either. There's a lot of misconception concerning tarot. We don't need more.
