Sacred Chant

Title: OOHING AND AAHING THEIR WAY TO A MORE SPIRITUAL INNER SELF IN LITCHFIELD
Chanting isn't just a repeated rhythmic phrase or the singing of a psalm. To Marguerite Mullee, sacred chant is about finding oneself.
"It serves to help free our voice," she said at a recent workshop at Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center. "Singing is one of the most integrated experiences we can do as human beings."
"In any sacred tradition, there's usually some type of music that goes along with it, usually chant," said Mullee, who is a professor of sacred music at Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell, music director for Our Lady of Grace Monastery in Guilford, artistic director of the Kent Singers, and music director of the Naugatuck Community Choir and The First Congregational Church of Washington, Conn.
Buddhists, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Wiccans, and countless other religions chant.
