Mother Takes Steps To Closure After Grave Theft

Author: Jeff Morganteen   Source: Connecticut Post (CT)

Title: MOTHER TAKES STEPS TO CLOSURE AFTER GRAVE THEFT

The phone call Takara Whitley received in early July sounded unsettling before she even knew what it was about.

A police investigator was calling her into the station for an issue he called sensitive. She thought back to a past speeding ticket but was sure she paid it. She called a friend to come to the police station with her.

The sensitive issue turned out to be one of the most bizarre and disturbing cases Stamford police have investigated in decades. The body of Whitley's 2-year-old daughter, Imani Joyner, was found in a plastic garbage bag by two fishermen on the bank of the Passaic River in Clifton, N.J., on July 5. The next day, after calling Whitley, investigators exhumed Imani's grave in Woodland Cemetery in the South End of Stamford.

The coffin was empty. Someone had broken into it and taken Imani's body.

It Is Not Isolated Sep 9th. at 12:00:10 pm EDT

Ken Ra (Minneapolis, Minnesota) - Email Me

There have been three grave robberies in Minneapolis in the last twenty years. Expanded I would guess at a hundred a year nationwide. There are some sick and nasty "people" getting together and protecting and helping each other out.. Since we are not fighting them, Then we must be helping them.
Time to clean out our own closets people.

"Though she said an arrest in the case would bring her some closure, Whitley said she feels no malice toward whomever took her daughter from her grave."

I'm not as forgiving and if I caught the ones who did this I would definately have some "closure"...

Whatever your personal religious beliefs you do not screw with the body of somebody else's dead child...

How Hateful Sep 8th. at 9:55:34 pm EDT

Ursyl (Murrysville, Pennsylvania) - Email Me

Sorry, but the extremity of selfishness and disrespect that such an act as this entails, appallingly hateful is all I can come up with.

Use your own body, not someone else's, especially someone else who did not give permission, would not have given permission, did not even share your beliefs.

Horrible Sep 8th. at 9:52:16 pm EDT

Medea (Somewhere, Massachusetts) - Email Me

I've heard about some of the Palo Mayombe, Candomble and Macumba traditions, but I've never heard of any practitioners of such robbing the graves of children and using their corpses in ritual. It might be some rogue people taking things to extremes, and "expanding" on extant ritual tradition in some sick and hideous ways.

This is the sort of behaviour which gives alternative faiths the bad names we all keep hearing from terrified mainstream people who read about things like this in the news; then think that this is what all neo pagan faiths are about. WE know that in reality this isolated incident is sick, scary, deviant stuff. However, many mainstream people don't think things through.

I feel so bad for the poor child's family.
