Devil Statue Raises Cain After Moving

Author: Sean O'Sullivan Source: The News Journal (DE)

Title: DEVIL STATUE RAISES CAIN AFTER MOVING
A giant demon that called Delaware home for decades is scaring, or at least annoying, some people in this small New Jersey town.
An 11-foot tall, 2,000-pound horned figure with glowing red eyes that once guarded a travel agency on U.S. 13 near Smyrna now looms behind a fence overlooking Route 541, the main highway through Lumberton, N.J.
"It's an eyesore," said Jim Songhurst, of nearby Medford, N.J. "I don't know what he is promoting with it."

Mind you, this is no longer the Garden State but the Development of Suburbia.....if the statue can keep the damn politician in line, then there's hope for this state after all....
Hey, since I haven't had the hockey team to cheer for, at least I can cheer this statue owner's intentions...

Well, it certainly doesn't look like it's from the South Seas, but is more Babylonian or even Sumerian for that matter. Since it was created for a movie, one could call it a piece of art and little more. Although I hope it stays around awhile. It certainly is an odd looking thing and worth a look.

I don't see what all the furor is about -- isn't there a collection of stories about a boogieman called the 'Jersey Devil'? Maybe they should just use that 'eyesore' as tourism advertising instead of moaning and groaning about it.
"Lumberton, NJ -- home of the ONLY AUTHENTIC New Jersey Devil"
