Clashes And Balance

Author: Rita J. King   Source: North County News (NY)

Title: CLASHES AND BALANCE

(This column is part of a year-long exploration of working-class American values, as told by one person in each of the 50 states.)

James Dickinson, 41, of Delaware, spends his private and professional life reconciling opposites—life and death, creation and destruction, light and shadow—in order to achieve equilibrium.

"It's is important to address the shadow aspect of the self in order for it to be integrated into the personality without doing harm," he said.

Since 1987, he has been working with people afflicted with HIV/AIDS. His job is to evaluate related needs in the State of Delaware and work toward a consensus about the capacity to develop programs and the community's desire to offer such services.

Dickinson is also the High Priest of a Wiccan coven, Guardians of the Windsword, which practices the Assembly of the Sacred Wheel tradition. He describes a coven as a "group of people who have come together to use tools of worship and ritual," with a teacher.

Another False Dichotomy? Mar 10th. at 12:16:07 pm EST

Embreis (Athens, Georgia) - Email Me

I don't see that there's necessarily a difference. The distinction between religion is just another false dichotomy arising from the domination of authoritarian, and dogmatic religions in the West.

A Pagan as a normal person!

I urge others to contact the North County News and express pleasure at this representation, as I will be doing.

I'm also prepared to mostly overlook the fact that the author made it seem as though we all do the same thing. Babysteps.

Sharon.
