Bell, Book & Candle Casts Spell On Dover

Author: James Merriweather Source: The News Journal (DE)

Title: BELL, BOOK & CANDLE CASTS SPELL ON DOVER
Helen Haughey didn't ride to work on a broom, and if you've seen her dressed in black and wearing a pointy hat while stirring a cauldron of witch's brew, it was probably Halloween or she was just jerking your leg a bit.
But she is a witch, and she's proud of it. She also co-owns a downtown Dover business -- Bell, Book and Candle -- that caters to practicing Wiccans and other pagans. She says there's enough demand to make for an operation that brings in "well into six digits" each year.
"It is surprisingly large," Haughey said of Delaware's witch population. "We have witches everywhere. All this is is a religion, another way to worship God."

has an interesting connection. It is the informal name of the ritual the Catholic Church used to use for excommunication. Supposedly it would be carried out by a bishop and 12 priests. (If the store could actually arrange such a service, I might fly out) These days it's not all that dramatic. Is the story a bit superficial and cliche? Absolutely, but then so are 99 percent of all mass-media treatments of religion.

I've never been to Bell, Book, and Candle when I lived in Newark, it's spelled "Assembly of the Sacred Wheel," and I can find Blade's sword for cheaper. :P
Well-written article.

It was a good well written article. I applaud it. As for the comments criticizing her for using the term God, well all I can say is that when you talk to a christian, It is much simpler to use the word God as a generic term. I worship the Goddess and the God, but if I get into a long religious discusion with a person of another faith I use the term "God" as a catch all. It's much easier to get points across, as you are not constantly having to explain your exact view of deity ( and for that matter, it's alot easier to pronounce than deity) So back to the point, GREAT ARTICLE!!!!!!!!!!!

This is likely a complaint I'd have to take up with the article's author, but the whole thing sounded more like an ad for Bell, Book and Candle rather than an article. What the heck is a "Sword of the Daywalker," anyway?
For Delaware, the area surrounding Dover may be a hotbed of covens and the like. The rest is fairly quiet. (And the coven named is actually "Assembly of the Sacred WHEEL," not "Will." The article author should have asked to have it spelled out.)
I give it an "A" for effort, but reading it sparked my grumpy side.
