Let's Get Metaphysical

Author: Al Kemp   Source: The News Journal (DE)

Title: LET'S GET METAPHYSICAL

Books, gemstones, candles and jewelry are what draw customers to Dover's Bell, Book, and Candle, which bills itself as "your one-stop shop for metaphysical needs."

But retailing isn't really what concerns Ivo Dominguez Jr., who became co-owner of the West Loockerman Street shop last August.

"The store does well, but the primary purpose here is to be a crossroads for a community that doesn't have a fixed location in time and space," he said.

He's talking about the state's pagan population, including Wiccans like himself, who have no churches or official gathering places.

While there may not be a shop in Salisbury (though my husband and I have been talking about fixing this sometime in the future) , there is one down the road is West Ocean City, MD. It's not large, but the owner keeps it well stocked. There has never been a local article done on it because the owner likes to keep things low key, but she does offer massage therapy...has a psychic in a few times a week..and I think holds a weekly group meditation.

Not knocking the article or anything...but even though I'm closer to Dover, I prefer driving to Laurel, MD to visit the Crystal Fox. They seem to have a lot more than I've seen in Dover, and their prices have been consistently lower. I'm all for local pagan businesses...but sometimes a person just has to go to where the bargains are. (Oh..there is a great little stall in the Bargain Bill flea market in Laurel, DE where a guy has begun selling books and has jars upon jars of herbs, resins, and other items for absolutely astounding prices!)

I wish I'd known this shop was there when I still lived close enough to go. Maybe it wasn't there four years ago when I lived an hour away in Salisbury, MD. Which, BTW, was absolutely lacking in any store like this. I sounds great.
