A Festival For Sharing Beliefs

Author: Ira Porter Source: The News Journal (DE)

Title: A FESTIVAL FOR SHARING BELIEFS
Kasey McPhail has attended the Delmarva Pagan Pride Festival on several occasions. The 23-year-old Millsboro area resident said it has left her with so many good memories that she wanted to share them. On Sunday, she had a chance to do just that as she shared the good times in Dover with two friends, her friend's mother and sister.
"This is absolutely wonderful. I like the entertainment and I like being around all these people," McPhail said. McPhail said she enjoyed the chance to share fellowship with other pagans. The group that gathered on Legislative Mall in Dover on Sunday was much bigger than the group she normally meets with in Lewes.

I was only able to go to the festival for about an hour that day (I had to work that night) . But the nice thing was I got to run into some old friends and get some things I needed (a dreamcatcher for my son, and a slave-braclet for my best friends birthday) and some things I wanted (a t-shirt and a funny bumper sticker) .
I have been 3 times now, and every time I try not to think too much into the "reasons" of the festival but just to enjoy myself and not feel so alone.
I am not a hater of anyone's religion because I learned a long time ago that we all worship the One no matter what names we give It. It's just that there are many here that do not seem to realize that. I wish that I could say that the problem is mostly with the Christian majority, but from what I have seen, it's actually the opposite.
I was pleased to see that this year everyone seemed to get along, and there was not any disturbance from either side at least not while I was there.

There will always be (sadly) large numbers of the angry and adrift. These are the people who don't stand for something so much as they have chosen to stand against something else. Witchvox is awash in these types because angry people can't seem to help themselves in lashing out in invective and hate. In this, those under the pagan umbrella are no different from any other religion. Most Christians are sane, normal people. Unfortunately for them, they are often represented by the most angry, vocal, and defective of their number. This minority in number forces its face on the larger entity. We are in the same, sinking boat.
I, personally, don't think there is any meaningful difference between these people, regardless of which belief system they have decided to afflict. I use the word afflict because they are like a disease. They have no interest in seeking truth, enlightment, or in bettering the world. Their only purpose is to build themselves up by lashing out at their chosen object of their hatred. These people among us, those that like to bash Christians at every opportunity, are worse than useless. They are actually dead weight, which makes us look as badk as extremist Christians make that faith look crazy. They are, of course, oblivious to the fact that they themselves are cartoons of those they attack. Go figure.

The local pagan pride where I grew up got cancelled after much heckling from the Christian Extremists in the area. It's sad because there were very limited activities for my religion in the biblebelt where I grew up.

My husband and I were at the Festival for a few hours in the morning. No "fundies", masquerading or otherwise. Just happy, friendly people - most pretty obviously Pagan.
It was a lot of fun; I wish we could have stayed for the whole event.

One more thing: Were there any preachers standing outside the park waiting to preach like there were in years past? Or how about (as is the problem with this site) any fundies masquerading themselves as "pagans" in order to make those of us who really are Pagans look bad?

Also in the realm of the intellectually dishonest would have to be site moderators who perhaps wisely refuse to post some of my more liberal responses. But if one can grasp a moderately large word like 'inference,' they can also suppose my general drift. After all, I am a regular here. Yes, there is still a place for atheistic vegans that color their pagan spirituality with archetypes and general lust for the wild and sacred green, as opposed to rigid belief systems including idolatry and perhaps even blood work, if I understand some of you correctly. On that point, perhaps this festival is inappropriate for REAL pagans. I believe goats and turtles were relatively safe at the park that day.

Well, at least the intellectually dishonest won't misread anything in this article...
Also very good.
