Update: Police Arrest Suspect In Cat Killings

Author: AP   Source: Justnews.com

Title: POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN CAT KILLINGS

Police have arrested the man they say is responsible for a string of cat killings in South Florida.

Tyler Weiman, 18, lives in the area and is now in police custody, police said. He is charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty, four counts of burglary and 19 counts of improper disposing of an animal body.

"Our communities of Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay have been on edge for many weeks now because of the horrific and unspeakable slaughterings of many of their beloved feline pets. I sincerely hope that with his arrest, the residents will feel relieved and their cats will be safe once again. It is expected that the vicious crimes that have plagued these communities will not be repeated," said Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle.

This Is The Part After How It Starts... Jun 15th. at 4:34:42 pm EDT

Ariel Moonshadow (Park City, Illinois) - Email Me

I'm sure the parents of this kid think it's impossible that he's done this. Everyone thought Ted Bundy was such a wonderful guy, too. I don't remember how many women he murdered, but he left a long, long trail. Let's not forget Jeffrey Dahmer, who started out torturing animals, and the BTK killer in Kansas -- I refuse to post his name --who committed those horrific crimes. Should I add others to the list?

Charles Ng and his partner in California; John Gacy, who did clown acts for kids; Pol Pot, who ordered the murders of 2 million of his own people; Ed Gein, in Wisconsin, who murdered women and mutilated them so that he could pretend he was talking to his dead mother in the mirror.

The movie "Psycho" was based on his story. How about Saddam Hussein, who orderd a nerve gas test on members of his own tribe; and my personal favorite, Kim Jong Il, who uses dissidents for science experiments and orders the execution of anyone attempting to leave North Korea.

Sociopaths always start somewhere, like Michael Vick did when he participated in dogfights and killed the dogs that didn't win for him. Now he's persona non grata with the NFL.

If someone consciously does these kinds of things to trusting, friendly animals, then he does not have the inhibitions that most of us have against doing what is just plain wrong. This kid has gone beyond the "one step short of" and into the next step, because the smirk on his face makes it plain that he just doesn't give a rat's ass whether it's right or wrong.

I recognize the "iinnocent until proven guilty" as vital to justice, but I do hope that there is enough real evidence to prove that this is the right person.

Not A Shadow Of A Doubt Jun 14th. at 9:48:39 pm EDT

It's a reasonable doubt. There is a difference. Stop expecting special treatment, and I can stop bitching about a double standard

Judgment Is Coming Jun 14th. at 7:49:50 pm EDT

If it turns out he is the guy, I'm throwing him to Sekhmet. I figure She can decide an appropriate punishment.

End Him. Jun 14th. at 6:26:33 pm EDT

Traveler Farlander (Dallas, Texas) - Email Me

If the police and prosecution can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is the person responsible, then he should be executed for what he's done. Life is life; if he's willing to commit these cruel, reasonless murders on anything that is alive, then it is only a matter of time until he moves on to human beings. Study him alive until there is no more to gain, then execute him and study his brain to further the science of understanding the sociopath. Keeping him alive beyond that serves no purpose.

He looks so very very normal. I hope that they have the right person.

Story Didn't Say Jun 14th. at 3:16:34 pm EDT

Maeven (Los Angeles, California) - Email Me

what's wrong with him and why he did this. I'm sure he's a sociopath, but he needs to be diagnosed and monitored for the rest of his life. Everyone can tell from his picture that he's enjoying this, and most serial killers start off practicing on animals. There is something very, very wrong with this young man, and unfortunately, animal cruelty won't keep him jail for long. He needs a psychiatric evaluation and to be monitored for the rest of his life. This is a bad one, and it will get a lot worse when he's let loose. He's on his path, and this is just the beginning. I hope they don't lose tabs on him when he's out. This one is broken.

His Smirk Is Unflattering Jun 14th. at 1:53:48 pm EDT

Ahr-Ohn (Bridgeport, Connecticut) - Email Me

If his wilful disregard for the lives and other rights of his neighbors hadn't been stepped on, he could have matured into a Serial Killer, or a Congressman.

"This terrible time has drawn us together as a community, further emphasizing the importance of knowing our neighbors, communicating with each other and always staying vigilant to suspicious activities whenever or wherever they may occur in our village," Palmetto Bay Mayor Eugene P. Flinn Jr. said in the news release.

People whose only reason for living as neighbors, is that they're neighbors, tend to value and respect Privacy, more than Community, so he at least got people out of their houses.

If Barrayar ever gets made into a movie series, Miles Naismith Vorkosigan could really use that smirk.

Let us devoutly hope that this psychopath gets what he deserves for his unspeakable actions. I'm glad the police finally caught him, and relieved that he's off the streets. My heart goes out to those poor animals and the families they left behind. Thirty-three cats killed and multilated (though he's only being charged with 19 of the slayings) ... let's hope the Threefold Law pays off in spades on this one.

May you reap what you sow, Tyler Weinman.

I Hope They're Right.... Jun 14th. at 12:47:15 pm EDT

bigcat (peoria, Illinois) - Email Me

The sad part is that he is displaying no remorse for what he did, as though it was just a game to him and that being arrested is no big deal.
I'm glad they got him, but my feelings about him still stand. May the Cat Goddesses of all cats large and small, grant him a proper-- reward-- for his efforts.

One less sociopath on the streets.
