Anti-Abortion Group Wants To Make Birth-Control Illegal In Florida

Author: Josh Hafenbrack, Orlando Sentinel   Source: tcpalm.com

Title: ANTI-ABORTION GROUP WANTS TO MAKE BIRTH-CONTROL ILLEGAL IN FLORIDA

A nationwide anti-abortion group launched an effort in Florida today to outlaw all abortions and certain types of birth control, including oral contraceptives and the morning-after pill.

The religion-infused movement, called "Personhood Florida," would define conception in Florida's constitution at the "biological beginnings," supporters said -- when the sperm meets the egg. The group filed its amendment today but the exact ballot language is still being worked out, said Secretary of State Spokeswoman Jennifer Krell-Davis.

The amendment seeks to outlaw all abortions, even in cases of rape and incest. Also criminalized: the morning-after pill and oral contraceptives taken by women, known as the pill.

Unbelievable. Sep 15th. at 6:24:30 pm EDT

All of my objections to this idiocy have already been stated by others, so I won't repeat them, but I just wanted to point out:

"Their rights our self-evident and they are inalienable."

Truly cringe worthy. It's one thing to use the wrong form of a word, but it's another to use the wrong form of a word that is pronounced differently. And yet another thing to do it in an article that is to be made public. And still another thing to use the correct word within the same sentence. Is there no professionalism left in the world? My God, what a facepalm!

Too Much Control.... Sep 15th. at 10:49:14 am EDT

bigcat (peoria, Illinois) - Email Me

In many of the extinction theories I have seen, overbreeding is also a possibility. The only difference between us and other animals, is control. Owls will eat the weakest of their own if there isn't enough food to go around. So too will mice, if there is no hope for her current litter. I see no reason for any woman to have to carry the product of either rape or incest to any term. Inbreeding creates an inferior product- and is a criminal act- and rape is also a criminal act- which should be terminated as well. A child is not usually considered a human until it is born, and while conception might be considered a spark of life, it doesn't actually exist until full formed and outside.
Does this law mean that any woman who naturally miscarries becomes a criminal as well? It sure sounds like it. Next they will go after those who choose to have vasectomies or tubal ligations--or need hysterectomies and call them criminals because they voluntarily choose not to breed, or those who cannot have children due to medical reasons. These are a people who actually care very little about life as they are certainly not concerned about the welfare of anything but their own egos. I have noticed in the past that their concerns always seem to evaporate once the kid is born and he or she then becomes another burden to curse, along with the unfortunate mother. Nor do they actually care about the mother at any time during the pregnancy. This a form of evil they want to inflict as a revenge for her condition. That is all that this is-- and we don't need it.

Silver Faery (Hays, Kansas) - Email Me

I would love to have this group walk up to someone like my sister and tell her that she can't have her pills because they are illegal....I'll gladly let them deal with her once a month!

What about those that cannot have children, due to medical disorders or diseases?? Or they going to be punished for not having children or for being unable to carry them to term. Techinically abortions occure in nature only then they are called mis-carriages. So all of us out there that have had even one of those, do we pay the price.

I've been on birth control off and on since I was 19. It's allowed me to have the two kids I have and no more....no one can force me to have a child I don't want or need!

I truely hope that this bill does not pass! And I thought Kansas was bad!

So if life begins at conception, and millions of unimplanted zygotes are lost every day, that would classify every sexualy active, menstruating female as a susspected serial killer! Does this strike anyone else as moderately insane? Notice that the conservitives that push these things through legislation care all about you from conception to birth, then ignore every health/money/social problem you have until you turn old enough to joint the military. Killing babies no, killing soldiers A-OK!... Hypocritical nonsense, all of it.

I'm With Her... Sep 14th. at 11:38:36 am EDT

...let them try to take my pills from me. I was put on birth control when I was 18. Not because I wanted to have sex, but because of my extreme periods. Know what happens when I don't have my pills to keep me balanced? I become a public threat for seven days every month. My emotions bounce all over the board and I'm more likely to snap on people.

As for now, I'm a married woman and my husband and I have decided that we aren't in a financial situation to properly support a child. So we're going to do what we can to not get pregnant (though I won't have an abortion if we do) . For situations like ours, are those all so concerned Christians gonna support us? Didn't think so.

As we know, the ridiculous literalizations of the myths and fables of “Abraham”ic religionism have been debunked on numerous occasions, and there is no valid basis for any of them as far as the texts being the “word” of an alleged deity.

Additionally, it has been estimated that about 50% of zygotes never implant in the uterine wall to become viable pregnancies, and thus these “humans” are lost naturally. Evidently, it is too tough for the alleged deity to get all of the fertilized eggs to implant. No doubt, dogmatic drivel will have to be fabricated by the hierocracies as the “eternal fate” of unimplanted zygotes.

Common sense dictates that people do not have any more children than they can afford. This is why education, family planning and contraception are important. If unwanted pregnancies can be eliminated, abortions will also be eliminated.

This is not good enough for the deranged extremist religionist, however. All sex must be for procreation and they are bound and determined to foist their baseless bvllsh!t on the entire populace either via legislative chicanery or brute force. And how about the fact that the disgusting “compassionate conservatives” who could care less if over 40 million Americans (and their children) have no health care whatsoever, are in favor of this idiotic legislation? Yes, just let them be born and live lives of misery is that right?. Fvck 'em.... they'll get their way, and that's what important. My disgust and contempt for these types can not be overstated.

Freedom & Liberty will be maintained, as per the Constitution of The United States, and, as people are educated as to the fallacies of the “Abraham”ic doctrines, their misogynist absurdities will fade away as they are finally relegated to the scrap heap of history.

The usual tactics of monotheistic fundamentalism:

Step 1: Gain control of the women by denigrating them and denying them the opportunity to make their own life choices every chance you get.

Step 2: Use your control over (sexual access to the) women to control the men.

If I live to be a thousand, I will never understand why any woman would ever wish to be a fundamentalist Christian, Jew, or Moslem. It's like a black person wanting to join the KKK... it makes absolutely no sense!

...has always been the true agenda of the anti-abortion movement. Claims of concern for human life is just the smokescreen they came up with then they realized that the rhetoric about punishing women who have sex that they used to ban abortion in the 1800s wouldn't fly anymore.

All Around Wrong Sep 13th. at 10:51:43 am EDT

Rhiannon Dragonraine (St. Robert, Missouri) - Email Me

This bill doesn't even make sense~ if you use birth control or have an abortion because you can't afford another child (like my great grandmother did in the 40's) it is simply because of that- you can't afford to feed another child-but this group seems to say that it is better the kid is born and starves to death than to perish before consciousness has set in, they obviously don't care about what happens to the child afterward.

Though it might have a chance of getting passed after all remember the debacle of the presidential election in 2000 occurred in Florida- and there they basically said that voters were confused and meant to vote a different way and just changed it to what they wanted it to be- besides how many people will vote yes on this simply because it doesn't affect them?

And I have a question for this bill what about tubal ligation? are you going to outlaw that and what will you do with women who already have their tubes tied before this bill was written?

I would like to know how these people get it in their head that the best thing to do is have as many children as possible irregardless of whether you can support them or not? The last time this country thought that way we had a very high infant mortality rate- maybe that is what they are looking for- other countries who don't have as great an availablity to birth control and such have a very high infant mortality rate as well- so perhaps that is actually the end goal they wish to see more infants die because there aren't enough now.

Whatever the reasoning it is not loving or anything that the "christian religions" try to convince you that their God is. and it certainly isn't logical.

But I do think that the phramacuetical companies won't let it happen as they have too much profit to make and too many lobbyists on their side and too much money to throw at this.

However it is a discriminatory law- not only by gender but also by age it discriminates by biological traits what people it applies to- which I do believe is illegal. And further more what would they do with a woman who needed hormone therapy to regulate bleeding due to fibroids or the like- tell her she is SOL since hormone therapy is birth control? and does this further extend to hysterectomies as a woman can no longer have children after that as well.

Okay I think I have given more than my 2 cents worth so that is all for now.
Warmest Wishes and Brightest Blessings to All
Rhiannon

Disgusting Sep 13th. at 8:16:04 am EDT

Laura C. (Weston, Florida) - Email Me

The only reason these people don't want to ban condoms as well is that not all of them are Catholic. The proposed ban on birth-control pills is ludicrous--the only "babies" "killed" by birth-control pills and the "morning-after pill" are blastocysts: tiny, hollow balls of undifferentiated cells that feel no pain and are not yet conscious. Millions of blastocysts fail to implant all the time. A few more won't make that much of a difference.

I personally believe abortion is wrong in most cases, but it is not my right to prevent others from making whatever decision is necessary, any more than I would have the right to force Goddess worship on these people. The fact that they don't even allow an exception in cases of rape, incest, or life-threatening circumstances indicates they don't really care about infants at all--this is all about punishing women for sex, a disgusting position more suited to the Middle Ages than the 21st century.
