Experts: Casting Spells Not About Killing

Author: Molly Montag   Source: Sioux City Journal

Title: EXPERTS: CASTING SPELLS NOT ABOUT KILLING

Casting spells and the study and practice of witchcraft is nonviolent and often misunderstood, experts say.

Lawrence Douglas Harris Sr., 25, of Sioux City told investigators he was casting a spell that "had gone bad" when his stepdaughters, ages 8 and 10, died Sunday. He faces two counts of first-degree murder.

Professor Helen A. Berger, author of three books on witches, said she doubted anyone claiming to have killed children while casting a spell is a true practitioner of witchcraft or Wicca, a nature-based religion often associated with witchcraft and spell-casting.

"All But Wei Were Sacrificed" Jan 9th. at 10:45:56 am EST

Ahr-Ohn (Bridgeport, Connecticut) - Email Me

The above quote being from Ira Levine's more frightening horror story.

I haven't yet read High Magic's Aid, but heard that it did involve a Human Sacrifice. They were casting a war spell, and that touches sufficient on Death and Destruction, that some volunteer simply caught his death of Cold. Early Christians failed to resussicate, often enough, that real Baptism was not used on those Roman Nobles, who sought ordination as Arch Bishops.

Denial doesn't really hope for the Truth, but neither does the denial of Denial.

The Star turned up in Shuffling... Drawn is The Five of Cups Inverted: Hopeful outlook; Favorable expectations; New Alliances; Affinity; Return of an old friend; Reunion. A man of somber cloak is standing amongst Cups, of which two are standing, and three are interrupted, their Work-Party-Negotiations having been interrupted, but this energy is somehow overturned. What enlightenment does that offer anybody?

AS FOR MYSELF.... Jan 8th. at 5:05:32 pm EST

I would NEVER cast a spell that would hurt anybody. I HAVE cast protection spells in the past and what I call "Joy" spells if someone I know is feeling down in the dumps. I have also cast blessings for expecting Mums that they and the baby come out in perfect health. As the header said, it's NOT about killing.... it's about HELPING one another....

Love to all

...of that other article about the same event.

I'm glad this newspaper actually took the time to get some FACTS about modern-day witchcraft instead of trying to hammer on the "ritual gone wrong" angle.

Just like the incident in Georgia that they mention, this is a unique and tragic incident. It is not an example of modern Paganism and anyone attempting to use it as such is just looking for attention.

associating the purely christian ritual of exorcism with our rituals? We do not believe in beating the devil or demons out of someone as the christians do but their "ritual gone wrong" is equated with our spells which, while possibly negative and dangerous do not often involve beating their victim to death.

I live about 40 miles from where this happened in Sioux City. I agree this person was more than likely NOT practticing a pagan/earth-based religion and more than likely IS just a horribly sick killer of children. As the article pointed out with the mention of the case of the exorcism in Georgia all forms of spirituallity/faith have their problems in the media. I am glad that this journalist at least contacted an 'expert' and that general public opinion is not one of fear but of disbelief that Wicca/Witchcraft is ultimately responsible for the deaths of these children.
