Wiccan: If Suspect Was Wiccan 'Throw The Book At Him'

Author: KTIV Source: KTIV (IA)

Title: WICCAN: IF SUSPECT WAS WICCAN 'THROW THE BOOK AT HIM'
Two days after their deaths, balloons and a teddy bear sit at the home of 10-year old Kendra Suing and 8-year old Alysha Suing. A common practice in the U.S. which signifies the love and sorrow people have for the victims and their families. But something not so commonplace is what allegedly took place behind the walls of this house, witchcraft.
Dr. Bruce Forbes, Morningside College Religion Professor: "Satanism and witchcraft, they kind of come together but there's no relation and in fact anyone I know involved in witchcraft at all thinks it's a joke."
Rev. Jeva Singh-Anand, Wiccan: "A lot of satanists reject these practices... They reject the actual hurting of people."

healing energies for the surviving family members. We as a community need to realize that if someone claims to be pagan and then commits a crime such is this, then the media jumps on the tragedy and points the finger at our religion and path. As our first tenet of belief, if ye harm none, do as ye will, was violated, this person in my opinion was not pagan and was looking for an excuse and a child murder. I also say if he is Wiccan or Pagan, throw the book at him, he's made our community take a thousand steps backwards in the eyes of the media and the witch hunts will begin again through both type and voice.

As Paganism grows, particularly among the teenagers, we will see more of this type of distortion of religious teachings to condone criminal acts.
Let me put it this way. When a Christian murders or rapes, is the crime the result of his religion? Does that mean that all Christians are murderers and rapists? Of course not. Hitler was a vegetarian. Does that mean all vegetarians are like Hitler?Nope.
I don't care if the person who did this was actually a Wiccan or not, even though obviously murder VIOLATES the Rede. If this person did the crime and there is credible evidence to show it, he should be prosecuted. We are all answerable for our actions and no one should hide behind the claim of a faith as an excuse for doing harmful things.
I will say this. We as Pagans should continue to try to educate the public about what we believe and what we do not approve of. Yes, certain groups and slanted media sources will blame Wicca for this. That's THEIR crap to answer for.
I feel sorrow for the victims and their families.

This is probably gonna be the most rational article on this tragic event.
How long ya'll think it'll take before WND exploits this with another "Witchcraft is evil!" article?

Pulling this out of the article, and wondering if any of the general public will absorb it -
"Forbes, "When I think of other crimes in the past that have been associated with witchcraft, it's really a mentally unstable person who then looks for some kind of religion that is unusual in the larger society and then they're drawn to those symbols but it's not the religion that made him do that, it's their own mental illness or personal problems that cause them to do that."
